Hardware NKit :: Recover to Redump Images :: Shrink and Preserve Wii and GameCube Disc Images as Playable

I'll just chime in on this since I'm fairly close to the subject as well. I'm also not a developer for Dolphin or NKit, but I am pretty darn familiar with the history. I helped Nanook with testing and had a lot of fun with this project along the way. This project brought together some of the of...

Hardware NKit :: Recover to Redump Images :: Shrink and Preserve Wii and GameCube Disc Images as Playable

Are you looking for the original GameCube dat? If so it’s found on redump.org. Or are you looking for a dat to use for your gcz files in a rom manager like RomVault or clrmamepro? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hardware NKit :: Recover to Redump Images :: Shrink and Preserve Wii and GameCube Disc Images as Playable

@gamecaptor - These games have that partition. The partition mapping isn't hard coded into NKit. The specific one you are looking for is: CFC886D393D3078EDB8A41A8BD51D22E2DB283E1_N_C3FF2E45 Billy's Boot Camp - Wii de Enjoy Diet! Hardware NKit :: Recover to Redump Images :: Shrink and Preserve Wii and GameCube Disc Images as Playable

The forthcoming NKit wbfs would work on real hardware. Nothing special about it, just a regular WBFS but with all bugs from other scrubbing programs corrected and a consistent output so you can verify against redump.org dats Nanook can correct if I am mistaken. Hardware NKit :: Recover to Redump Images :: Shrink and Preserve Wii and GameCube Disc Images as Playable

I did months ago. Look at most posts in the WIT thread. It has not been fixed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hardware NKit :: Recover to Redump Images :: Shrink and Preserve Wii and GameCube Disc Images as Playable

I think that’s a good way to look at it. The original goal of NKit was to create an archival grade format that was playable in Dolphin NOW. And that goal was achieved. If all goes well then JosJuice’s work will likely render NKit ISO and GCZ obsolete for Wii. NKit ISO will still be the best...

Hardware NKit :: Recover to Redump Images :: Shrink and Preserve Wii and GameCube Disc Images as Playable

Correct. Know anyone that would be interested in tackling that? It would be awesome to see that kind of support added to cIOS... that would also mean prototypes could be played on retail hardware.

@matt! Here is info on RVT-H courtesy of GerbilSoft (who also helped out on this project in the background for his incredible knowledge of dev formats) https://github.com/GerbilSoft/rvthtool/blob/master/doc/disc_image.md

Hardware NKit :: Recover to Redump Images :: Shrink and Preserve Wii and GameCube Disc Images as Playable

For historical reference, the old thread leading up to v1.0 is here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/new-app-nkit-restore-shrink-and-preserve-disc-images-in-playable-formerly-swiit.533402/ I'm sure @nanook was tired and just wanted to get this out, but a big thing here is that this app supports two...

Hardware New App: NKit - Restore, Shrink and Preserve Disc Images in Playable (Formerly SWiiT)

@FMonty - Attached is a custom datfile I made with forcepacking unzip enabled. Set the roms directory to parent directory for your recovery files. This dat file contains two sets "GameCube" and "Wii"

Hardware New App: NKit - Restore, Shrink and Preserve Disc Images in Playable (Formerly SWiiT)

@Zarper - Thank you for sharing the extra details. I was able to reproduce the recovery failure when using "Remove Update Partition" option in WBM. I also reported the details to @nanook separately so he can look into. WBM must be jacking with the partition table. I wonder if the same or similar...

Hardware New App: NKit - Restore, Shrink and Preserve Disc Images in Playable (Formerly SWiiT)

Let us know the exact steps to reproduce the issue, the settings used, and if the source was an iso that matched redump. I tested with a beta version and it restored properly for me. I restored a split wbfs that was only a game partition. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hardware New App: NKit - Restore, Shrink and Preserve Disc Images in Playable (Formerly SWiiT)

@Zarper - Regarding your Smash wbfs... did you also strip out the VC partitions? If so those would also be needed for a full restore in addition to the channel partition. HA8P: RSBP010001_01_HA8P_N_20C83614 HA9P: RSBP010001_02_HA9P_N_FDA01E32 HBAP: RSBP010001_03_HBAP_N_AC19809E HBBF...

Hardware New App: NKit - Restore, Shrink and Preserve Disc Images in Playable (Formerly SWiiT)

I posed in the WIT thread here. https://gbatemp.net/threads/wwt-wit-wiimms-wbfs-iso-tools.182236/page-97#post-8703391 Wiimm is active on that thread.

    Hacking wwt+wit: Wiimms WBFS+ISO Tools

Someone found an issue where WIT can destroy the apploader.img file when doing a simple WIT copy of a GC game. https://gbatemp.net/threads/new-app-nkit-restore-shrink-and-preserve-disc-images-in-playable-formerly-swiit.533402/page-3#post-8703380

Hardware New App: NKit - Restore, Shrink and Preserve Disc Images in Playable (Formerly SWiiT)

Thanks for the report! Great find! But its not a bug with NKit... in fact NKit can fix your broken scrubbed ISO. Do a "WIT fdiff" on the scrubbed iso vs the original. You'll notice that the apploader is different now. WIT mangled the apploader during the scrub... must be a bug with WIT. Compare...

Hardware New App: NKit - Restore, Shrink and Preserve Disc Images in Playable (Formerly SWiiT)

How did you scrub it? Was this scrubbed from an ISO that originally matched redump? Any and all bugs anyone finds should be looked at. I do know that the Japanese demo version of Rogue Squadron II had junk data based off of the wrong game ID... (that one was fun to brute force to determine the...

Hardware New App: NKit - Restore, Shrink and Preserve Disc Images in Playable (Formerly SWiiT)

I assume you are trying to rebuild wii wbfs files to a full iso? It sounds like you have some bad wbfs files where the data in corrupt and cannot be recovered. Does the same issue happen with SWiiT (the older version before GC support was added and renamed to NKit)...

Hardware New App: NKit - Restore, Shrink and Preserve Disc Images in Playable (Formerly SWiiT)

I cannot reproduce either of the issues you mentioned. Twin Snakes sounds like it would be easy to reproduce, but it seems to work fine for me. My hashes for my nkit.gcz for disc #1 of Metal Gear Solid - The Twin Snakes (USA) are: CRC32: 02AB12F2 MD5: 802754AC3399C731A03C4283BB537629 SHA-1...

Hardware New App: NKit - Restore, Shrink and Preserve Disc Images in Playable (Formerly SWiiT)

I think you downplayed a key feature here... this is an ARCHIVE grade lossless format that is playable in Dolphin and works on real hardware using a USB Loader. Yeah the space savings aren't crazy considering GC games aren't huge to begin with and HDD space is relatively cheap... but still, you...
