    Problem solved by using https://github.com/Bob123a1/CDNSP-GUI rather than https://github.com/Rikikooo/CDNSP. Wish I knew what they did different though. I'll make a github issue on Rikikooo's version.

    I can confirm the above is correct; after applying the latest "R4iGold_NDSi145_Patch.rar" update my DSi XL v1.4.5 works fine with the R4i 3DS RTS r4ids.cn card.

    Answering my own question it seems the latest "R4i-SDHC 3DS" card supports multiple save states according to the image on their product info page. And they seem to have updated their kernel just this month, as opposed to the recommended R4i Gold which hasn't received updates in quite a while...

    The card is Revision "D" according to the PCB. This revision is not listed on the official website however which makes me suspicious. Does anyone have a Revision D card? According to this site there's nothing wrong with ozmodchips.com.
