Tutorial Simple Guide to Downgrading your 3DS

Followup: It turns out to be a complete downgrade! I followed the rxTools tutorial and now installing CIAs is no longer a dream! The "ISO SITE" also has MD5 and SHA1 hashes for the zips, so the one you downloaded should at least match them. Otherwise, download SafeSysUpdater from this thread...

Tutorial Simple Guide to Downgrading your 3DS

Another success story: USA O3DS, 9.9 to 9.2. Got a black screen after SysUpdater's reboot, but I removed my SD card and booted it again, et voila, 9.2! Thanks so much to everyone involved! Hopefully I'm not knocking on wood... I'm feeling so ecstatic that I can't test anything yet.

Hacking 3DS NOOB PARADISE - Ask questions here

I'm unfortunate enough to have not updated to 10.3 in time before Ninty released 10.4. My O3DS is currently on 9.9, and from what I've seen, not that many people downgraded successfully from 9.9 itself. Could I use sysupdater and a 10.3 CIA to upgrade to 10.3 that way? Does it even work like...

Homebrew [FAQ] All Things Ninjhax 2.0

I have an Old3DS on 9.8. Is it possible to use Ninjhax 2.0 and some homebrew to retrieve saves from a retail cart? I would like to get a private header for my Sky3DS, preferably without relying on Powersave, which seems to be my only option at this point.

    Hacking Sky3DS losing save data

I found that if I reboot the 3DS without first pressing the blue button, my save is still there for the current game. It seems rebooting doesn't transfer the save file. How do you "initialize" the Sky3DS? Also, could I get the name or homepage of the card1-to-card2 converter? I found an...

    Hacking Sky3DS losing save data

That's very helpful. Thanks a lot! Just to make sure: Does Sky3DS transfer the save from EEPROM to microSD (and back) only when the blue button is pressed? When could the transfer also happen otherwise? I find losing game progress to be really stressful, considering the amount of time good...

Hacking Diskwriter taking 4 hours to write one game?

It's probably a good idea to finish the game fully to your enjoyment before you do some experimenting. As long as the cart is not removed from the 3DS, the game saves should be intact.

    Hacking Sky3DS losing save data

That's odd. I suppose the block configuration of the microSD card or some blue magic gets disturbed by deleting the other games and so the save file becomes corrupted. Anyway, it's good to back up the game saves first before you do anything. To make sure the save isn't copied over incorrectly...

Hacking Diskwriter taking 4 hours to write one game?

Then I suppose for EEPROM-NO games, before we do anything with the Sky3DS, we take out the system SD card and back up the save files in there first. Good to know, thanks! Be sure to individually right-click the EEPROM-YES games you want to back up the save of in DiskWriter and choose that...

Hacking Diskwriter taking 4 hours to write one game?

If your game is marked as EEPROM YES, then as soon as you cycle the card and load up the next game on the list, the save content in the EEPROM is transferred to the microSD card and should be safely backed up on the computer. I've done this before: Saved the game, pressed blue button, waited for...

    Hacking Sky3DS losing save data

My Sky3DS is loaded with a few games but I play only one at the moment, and it acts like a real 3DS cart. My save is still there despite switching off the 3DS or closing it, though I haven't tried removing the cart or the SD card before pressing the blue button. I previously added a few new...

Hacking Diskwriter taking 4 hours to write one game?

Look at your USB port. If it's blue, it's a 3.0. If it's white or black, it's a 2.0. I actually have never seen a 1.0 or 1.1, but I doubt your PC has that because they're from 2 decades ago. I use the tutorial included with Diskwriter 2.02b and everything works as fine as it can be. Have you...

Hacking Diskwriter taking 4 hours to write one game?

Try writing your games from her PC and see if the speed improves. But for your PC, I think it'd be wise to get a PCI card with USB 2.0 or 3.0 ports, because 1.0 ones are ancient and will frustrate you.

Hacking Diskwriter taking 4 hours to write one game?

It should still run at USB 2.0 speeds when plugged into a 3.0 port, unless your PC still has the 1.0 ones. I'm using that setup too and am getting max write speed of 17 MB/s; writing a game typically takes 5 mins. The adapter is a Sony one and the card, Samsung 64GB.

That must be rough. Productive I'm sure but hard to balance with daily life

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
