You can't make a PIC18/16F device read only/write protected - the CP and CPD configuration bits exist to prevent you from reading program and/or data (EEPROM) memory back via external tools.
This excludes 'modern' chips with the ability to write their own program memory - those often have a set...

No issues if you want to include it with the patch.
Surprised about the Dolphin connection problems, but I do recall mariokart users having similar issues prior to the game being disabled.

Here's a little portable WIT based patch kit that I put together a while ago for a friend - haven't used it myself in quite a while but I think it was as simple as dragging/dropping the desired .iso on the 'network patch.bat' file and picking the desired network service.
@Brand Newman I think the issue you're having is likely due to the DNS setting *inside* Dolphin being ignored - as it actually uses the system network adapter DNS to resolve domains.
One option is to set the DNS on the adapter (probably a bit technical for most users), another is to substitute...

Can't wait to try the patch out - me and a friend had a laugh playing the multiplayer a month or so back.
Similar to lost magic it seems that you really need to invest the time unlocking spells etc... for it to really open up.
