    Maybe it's against piracy or even key leaking. I wondered if the region lock standed for different encryption and decryption keys for each 3DS region. That would make things hard for hacking, IMO. But I doubt it's made this way...

    I think it's okay. If RPG is what you seek, also take a look at Tales of the Abyss and Code of Princess. I know those two aren't the only RPGs for the handheld, but I'm sure they're among the top 10.

    One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.

    Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
