    Hardware Nintendo Discusses 3DS Successor

I hate to bring up something that might burst your bubble, I really do, but…: http://nintendoeverything.com/clarification-on-3ds-successor-news/. That being said, I also think that it would be neat if the 3DS got a true successor, especially if it was integrated into the Switch platform somehow.

ROM Hack Is there a way to patch an original ds cartridge?

Never mind about keeping my original SoulSilver cartridge's game save file available for both itself and any ROM hack I'd want to apply to it; that would be nice to have as an option if it were possible, but I think I just realized that a ROM hack could mess with the formatting of the save file...

ROM Hack Is there a way to patch an original ds cartridge?

Ignore the earlier rant. I simply don't care about that any more. Now, do you guys have any ideas or not?

ROM Hack Is there a way to patch an original ds cartridge?

OK; let's start over because I may have been ranting just a little to get my original idea off of my chest. Patching things at runtime would probably be too much trouble, just like you guys said. It would most likely be a better idea to make it so that the place where I was going with the...

ROM Hack Is there a way to patch an original ds cartridge?

Whoa; slow down, buddy! I didn't say that I was in the midst of a lawsuit with Nintendo, did I? I'm just taking preventative measures, that's all.

ROM Hack Is there a way to patch an original ds cartridge?

Pretty much, except that I want it to be able to apply ROM hacks and run as a program from the flash cart that I already have.

ROM Hack Is there a way to patch an original ds cartridge?

Why couldn't I just wire up a two-way cart selector to some extra processing power and modify it so that one slot could hold a normal DS cartridge from which a generic flash cart could grab code to process using the extra processing power that I had wired up in between it and the legitimate DS...

ROM Hack Is there a way to patch an original ds cartridge?

Actually, I was wondering if you guys could point me to some other sites where I could get additional advice on how to build the kind of device which we have been discussing. I am unfortunately almost a complete newbie when it comes to building hardware and then programming it. I own some...

ROM Hack Is there a way to patch an original ds cartridge?

Thanks for clarifying how older, but not newer, Nintendo consoles use their cartridges as active memory whereas newer, but not older, Nintendo consoles use cartridges more like SD cards (they even look kind of like them!) As for why I want to modify my SoulSilver cartridge the hard way, I...

Hey, I have trouble seeing them too! But then again, that's just because I have low vision and have to hold the thing really close to my face…

Hacking 3DS Hack: "We hacked it"

You're right, the original DS's screen's only brightness level (besides 'Off,' which no longer exists,) is less bright than the lowest brightness level available on the DS Lite.

Hacking 3DS Hack: "We hacked it"

But I love my original DS! I never buy the minor console remakes; that would be pointless, right? (Okay, so I should have bought a DSi, but new consoles are expensive; I just waited for the 3DS, counting on backwards compatibility – lo and behold, it was there!)

Hacking 3DS Hack: "We hacked it"

How would one hack the 3DS through USB if the consumer version of the device doesn't have a USB-compatible port?

Hacking 3DS Hack: "We hacked it"

You guys do remember that, since the ROM chips on 3DS cartridges are read-only, updates to their contents appear in the 3DS Settings app's 'Data Management -> Updates and Extra Data' section because they have to be saved to either system memory or an SD card and loaded with the cartridge's...

Could it be through your system-wide Friend Code, which will soon (hopefully) be replaced with a system-wide Nintendo Network ID
