    That's really weird. I have no idea why it would be doing that, given that all of the setup went through without issue. All I can say is try using a different Make_Rom (since it seems like you'd be doing that either way).

    The recommendations made above are probably more up-to-date, but I was able to compile Ctrulib and the example programs myself using this in place of the missing linker.

    I don't have issues with the gyroscope when used with my Gateway, but incidentally enough, I use 4.2... Not that I'd assume it was related, but it is an odd coincidence.

    I'm not entirely certain, so don't quote me on it, but I believe there's a method somewhere on these forums that actually goes into how to force usage of the old save encryption, which we already know how to decrpyt and re-encrypt.

    If you've got the skills for a motherboard replacement, there shouldn't be any reason you can't (someone else may correct me on that). Though honestly, if you've got the Zelda 3DS XL and a donor 4.5 XL, you'd be better off to just swap the casing. If you only have the 4.5 motherboard... Have fun.

    After looking over it and noticing that my makefile would not give access to stdlib, I made a small change to accommodate for that and attempted to compile the example again. There was little significant change, this time giving the error "undefined reference to '_sbrk'".
