Your problem could be a bad game dump, poor quality discs or laser pick-up...
In case you are unaware here is the control list copied from ps2-home.com

Although this PS2 is the older model the comments say just hold power for a few seconds.
Have you tried pressing triangle on the controller at console boot as that can bring up some options.
Also do you have an original PS1 game to test boot.
The simplest way to launch Swiss on wii is with a GameCube save game exploit with one of the compatible games.
No changes need to be made to the wii just boot the GameCube game with the correct exploit on a memory card.

The board has options for different memory configuration.
4GB/8GB announced so far expect other options down the line including a compute module and rpi500.
RetroScaler Blue Retro adapter.
The usb cable is just for physical connection to a PC to update. Not for powering the adapter as the reviewer states except in rare instances where a PS2 will not deliver enough power to the adapter then the cable can be used to boost the voltage.
OP
Do you have a compatible slim to use MechaPwn and boot back up discs.
Otherwise wait and see what develops beyond mx4sio with the next generation PS2 memory card readers.
