Making the Switch to Linux! I need help with some things.

If you're switching to Linux for the first time, I would highly recommend just dual booting instead of just straight up replacing Windows, this way you can test all of the above before deciding whether you want to permanently switch or not. Simply shrink your main partition on Windows by like...

Things you recently bought or got

Grabbed a few other things other than meat... A Logitech G915 keyboard. A Logitech G Pro mouse. A Guitar Hero Live PS3/Wii U USB and guitar, had a hankering to play some Clone Hero and couldn't find any of my USB ones. Decided it was time to finally get rid of all my wired PC accessories at...

Who actually cares about graphics and framerates?

Depends on the game, really. Things like action, racing, FPS, TPS, etc I'd rather have higher framerate than graphical fidelity, but for things like platformers, RTS, puzzle, most adventure games I'd be fine with just stable 60fps and good looking content. Generally speaking I'll pick stable FPS...

Things you recently bought or got

MEAT A mom and pop butcher shop opened up about 15 minutes from where I live about a year ago, figured I might as well give them a go. They offer "meat bundles" for relatively cheap (around here anyways), so I got: 6lbs of ground chuck 8 16oz new york strips 2 ~4lb chuck roasts 4lbs worth...

Please suggest a method for free 100GB+ cloud storage

I'm not aware of anyone offering free 100gb+ cloud storage. Highest free tier I've ever seen is like maybe 20GB at best, and I suspect that'll always be the case because storage is expensive. You could probably cheese it by just signing up to as many cloud storage services as possible and using...

Need advice for converting analog signal to digital in the most cost-effective way possible

https://electron-shepherd.com/products/wii2hdmi?sca_ref=3627678.51tOxZrM42 < Beyond that, only real solution is an upscaler, which you've already said are too expensive, or giving up using just a Wii and buying a Wii U instead.

Risks of using Internet with WindowsXP in 2020s?

The problem with using XP on the internet in modern times is that XP is extremely vulnerable to all sorts of viruses and malware now that it doesn't receive security updates anymore. The reason this is a problem isn't because "oh no my XP machine has viruses now :(", it's that those...

    Pokémon Concierge

Watched it with my daughter, she loved it and I thought it was pretty well done for what it was. Cute and simple show, which is about what I expected for something like this. I think the stop motion was pretty well done, too. There's a making of out on YT now for it to give a little BTS if...

Which smart thermostat should I look into

< Honestly, just the base Nest thermostat works well enough. Not as fancy as their "learning" thermostat, but you can access it from anywhere to change temps or set schedules, I like the simple rundown it gives for month by month usage comparisons, and it's not overly complicated to setup and...

    What is your comfort game(s)?

OSRS. Grew up playing it as a kid, stopped around 08, then went back on and off when they pushed out OSRS in 2013 or so. Also Souls games generally, but in particular Dark Souls 1 or Demon's Souls. Played them enough that I can just run through them without having to really think.

How to safely eject Android phone from Windows?

There's no need to safely eject any USB drives anymore since some early Windows 10 update, they changed the way USB transfers work so data doesn't get cached anymore by default. Once the progress bar ends on whatever transfer you're doing, you can immediately yank the USB out without any issues.

    When is a console retro?

For me I generally consider anything 2 generations or older than the current gen "retro". I think a lot of people get thrown off by the term because it's hard to consider something like the 360/PS3 with its "advanced" 3d capabilities and online modes in the same ballpark as the NES or SNES...

Hardware Old laptop crashing after RAM upgrade – Any ideas?

Most likely the laptop simply doesn't support more than 1GB, taking a look at the manual, the max specs it supports officially is 2x 512MB sticks, anything over is considered "unsupported", and while I have seen some older laptops blast past the "max memory limit", something like that Acer with...

Retro Gaming: Play on the original console or emulate?

I prefer original hardware always, but these days for convenience sake I tend to emulate most of the time. I own most of the major consoles at this point, but keeping them hooked up or dragging them out from storage to hook them up anytime I want to play XYZ is just too much of a chore these...

Things you recently bought or got

Got that all fixed up, and decided to take the four mostly-good condition 5s's that weren't iCloud locked as well. Just needed screens on those, so replaced that and now I just have five random iPhones sitting around

Things you recently bought or got

Someone came in and recycled a big ol' box of old broken iPhone 5s/6's today, went through them all and ended up finding one first gen iPhone SE that luckily had no iCloud lock, just needed a screen and probably a battery. Threw both of those on it, ended up also having bad tristar so plan on...
