I just bought Band Hero (Wii), the entire bundle (guitar and drums). I have my Wii at 4.0U, Wii Key 2, and HBC (softmod) installed as well....

Are you sure you have a Wii Key 2? I have a Wii Key 2 and have had no issues with it. And I have played Super Mario Galaxy.
Not sure if its mentioned, but definitely better hardware - i.e. processor - so that it reduces loading time and can support more multiplayer games.
Is 4.2U required for any games?

If you have a mod chip, it should be safe to update.
If you have HBC, don't update.
