Are you looking for a fitness tracker that's cheaper than something fancy like an Apple Watch or Samsung’s Galaxy Watch line, but also want a bit more features than Fitbit’s entry level products? Well that’s where Mobvoi’s Ticwatch series comes in, offering affordable health trackers without breaking the bank. Their latest entry into the Ticwatch series is the Ticwatch GTH, featuring an array of sensors and trackers designed to keep you informed about important aspects of your health. So how well does it work?

Overall, nothing particularly high-end or surprising. Mobvoi opted not to go for WearOS for this particular watch, which limits its functionality and is a little disappointing, but they still managed to add some basic support for things like SMS notifications and music playback controls. In terms of data the TicWatch GTH gathers, the TicWatch GTH’s sensors are able to measure multiple stats about your health, including your heart rate, steps per day, your respiration rate, your blood oxygen saturation levels, sleep quality, and even your skin temperature which is nice. Whether this data is going to be particularly accurate (particularly your blood oxygen levels and respiration rates), on the other hand...well, let’s just say you shouldn’t use this information to self-diagnose yourself with any particular illnesses. Not to say the data provided is going to be completely false, but I can’t find any accuracy data on sensors used. Battery life will depend on how you set up the watch. Mobvoi claims the watch can last up to 7-10 days before you need to charge it again, but note that this will vary depending on if you have 24-hour heart rate detection enabled. For myself, I was able to go about 7 days before I had to charge the watch which is pretty ok for something more budget-oriented like the GTH.

In terms of the watch’s interface, it’s fairly simple and easy to use but can be quite laggy to respond. You can swipe right to view the various stats the watch tracks as noted above, but doing so is actually kind of annoying because the watch takes FOREVER to read the data and provide it to you. In some cases, when trying to view my respiratory rate for example, the watch would take so long to gather the data that the watch face would turn itself off because of inactivity. Not exactly something useful if you want to quickly view your stats during a workout. You can also start timers for any of the various fitness activities supported in the watch. Unfortunately, the TicWatch GTH doesn’t have any GPS, so it has to piggyback off your phone in order to track your route if that’s something you’re interested in. Additional information on all this data tracked can be viewed by pairing the watch to the Mobvoi app, which is done by simply scanning a QR code displayed on the watch which is a nice touch. One of the nicer features of the app, though, is the ability to customize the watchface: you can choose from one of hundreds of different faces provided by Mobvoi, or if you want you can upload your own background picture which is pretty cool.

So is the TicWatch GTH worth buying? For $79.99 USD, I’m not quite sure. There isn’t a lot wrong with the watch really, but I found myself barely caring about it’s standout “Skin temperature and blood oxygen saturation” sensors, and for a fitness tracker there are certainly better options out there with more accurate tracking.

Verdict

What We Liked ...
 • Decent Battery life.
 • Customizable watch faces
 • Decent array of sensors...
What We Didn't Like ...
 • Watch interface is a bit laggy
 • No built-in GPS
 • ...that I'm not sure are totally accurate

Overall

Overall, for $80 USD, the TicWatch GTH is ok if you're looking for a health tracker that can monitor additional information like your blood oxygen saturation or your respiratory rate...so long as you curb your expectations on how accurate those sensors are. And with no GPS and a laggy watch interface, you might be better off with another health tracker.
