Official GBAtemp Review

Product Information:

So you’ve got a Nintendo Switch and all of the accessories it comes with, which can be quite a handful. And it just so happens that you move around with the whole package quite a bit, be it to a friend’s place, to a relative, another city or from your workplace and back. Or maybe you want to neatly tuck the Switch and its peripherals in a convenient carry case. For any or all of those purposes, is PowerA’s Everywhere Messenger Bag the right one for you?

PowerA’s Everywhere Messenger Bag for Nintendo Switch (long name, I know) is an officially licensed product that holds everything that comes out of the Nintendo Switch box, but in style.

The one sampled in this review features the classic Super Mario Bros. design but there are two other flavors to this bag: the Nintendo Switch Design and the Zelda: Breath of the Wild Design.

This nostalgia-imbued Super Mario Bros. version features a high quality print of the timeless classic’s startup screen on the front and just below the zipper is a depiction of the darker underground world, and gosh! I can almost hear both themes playing whenever I look at them!

Opening up the zipper, you’ll find the single compartment with easy to reach sections for each Switch peripheral. I really appreciate the modular aspect to the partitions which can be removed or bent to suit your needs with their velcro parts sticking to the bag’s inner shell. There’s also an included padded, adjustable shoulder strap should you prefer to wrap the Messenger Bag around your shoulder. Or else just use the comfortable rubberized handle to hold it in one hand.

Material-wise, PowerA opted for polyester, so the bag feels like any regular school bag you might have come across. The whole thing is padded on all sides with polyethylene foam, sufficient to protect whatever’s inside from bumps while commuting and what not but I wouldn’t throw it in an airplane’s cargo hold just like this. So don't get too reckless with it!

If you give the inside of the bag a closer look, you can notice the brilliant attention to detail that PowerA devoted to this product. Adorning the inner lining, also of polyester material, are some 8-bit Super Mario Bros. pattern featuring items like the Fire Flower, Coin and Question Block.

Flipping the bag on its back, you can see another zipper that gives access to a slim but deep compartment. Consider that one for storing extra cables or earphones, or maybe even a thin power bank to juice your Switch on the go.

PowerA also includes a complimentary slim but rather tough case in the Messenger Bag that fits the Switch with joy-cons attached. Another neat feature of the case is the Mario silhouette on top! Just bear in mind that there are no slots to store your game cartridges as you might have seen in dedicated carry cases.

Despite its relatively large size, the Everywhere Messenger Bag cannot hold much more than what comes out of the original Nintendo Switch box. You can squeeze in an extra pair of joy-con at most but not a full-fledged controller. You will have to make do with the joy-con grip. I would recommend not to forcibly fit any extra item that can bulge out of the bag because the whole bag is such a tight fit that such additional items might damage the zipper. Below is a typical picture of what you can comfortably fit in this bag:

At an MSRP of $34.99, the Everywhere Messenger Bag for Nintendo Switch is a very affordable storage option and it’s officially licensed! It will definitely put some style in your Nintendo Switch storage game while doubling as a safe carry case to bring the whole system wherever you want. Just don’t expect to carry in extra stuffs like large over the ear headphones and controllers.

Verdict

Overall

PowerA made an affordable officially licensed product that snugly holds your complete Nintendo Switch avec accessories in style. Recommended!
This looks really cool, but personally, I prefer discreet apparel. Still looks cool, though.
the Super Mario Bros. version is indeed kinda flashy but the Nintendo Switch and Zelda versions are more discrete. If you meant discrete in form factor, then yes this Messenger Bag is large but I've got another review coming up that might be more to your liking in this aspect ;)

tbh I didn't know there were Zelda and Mario versions, I'd possibly have picked up one of those instead, but eh, I do like the Switch version too. And since it is grey and black it matches my Switch with the grey joycons I suppose
