Firstly, UK recommendation pl0x.

I am moving out in a week and I just want suggestions from my fellow Brits on what ISP should I get. Right now, I'm living with my mates and their broadband just got cut off (£200 bill WTF?!?) and I just found out that they didn't have unlimited Internet (Virgin Media).

So, here's the criteria:

- Unlimited access
- A well-known ISP. I'm saying this because when I searched for "top ISPs in the UK" I got some names. So ISP's like BT, Sky, AOL, Virgin should be welcome. Just go for mainstream ones please :)
- Does not provide a crap router. The one that Virgin gave to my friend isn't really compatible with the DS so preferably a router that is compatible with the DS, 360, Wii and most wireless devices.
- Really fast. This feels like an unnecessary inclusion but I trust the Temp with recommending the best ISPs.

Thanks :)

Virgin if you are in a cable area - fastest speeds available to consumers in the UK (100mbit - they also do 50, 20 and 10mbit) and unlimited.

Be* if you will be using ADSL. Owned by o2, but unlike the o2 branded service they are unlimited. 24mbit down, with either 1.3 or 2.5mbit up.

Nobody else is worth going with, especially not the "big mainstream providers".

im with o2 broadband unlimited!
its fully unlimited, i download far to much. they've never slowed me down the whole time ive been with them.
works perfectly with xbox, wii and ds.
the router is pretty good, not a top model, but works fine with everything ive connected to it..computers, phones, ipod touch.

Plus if you're an o2 customer (got a phone contract with them), they drop the price of the broadband £10 a month, which makes it actually really cheap.
All i can get in my area is 5mb, but the o2 unlimited package i believe is up to 8mb, which i think is the fastest in the uk anyways.

Go take a look over at DSL Zone UK (http://www.dslzoneuk.net) or ISP Review (http://www.ispreview.co.uk) - both have "rate my ISP" type graphs... you'll see where the "big names" come out and why I too would avoid them.

dter and fishykipper are bother wrong.

The o2 "All-Rounder" package has a fair usage policy of 100GB a month, the "Works" package has a FUP of 250GB a month.

That info is easily verified - both on the web (by people who have been warned about their usage levels and news sites) or by contacting o2 directly.

Be* also have a (unspecified) FUP, but they have never enforced it AFAIK - even with some users downloading over 1terrabyte a month.

It was easy to bypass some of the restrictions, as one of the admins left a registry key in the administrative shares drive, which allowed me to get around the blocking of some sites.
