I don't know that there is much expertise involved. Go to places where dumpsters contain good stuff, take it and go home. Might work better at 3am. Industrial parks, charity shops, commercial parks/buildings and rich places when people move regularly or student places at the end of terms.

Don't leave a mess, don't make all the noise, if you have to float over a gate to get somewhere good then don't make trouble... most places that you will want to scan for this sort of thing pay by weight/volume for removed items and thus you are theoretically saving them money.
This still applies even if your country has laws against being a scavenger.

If you want to start light then go with the rich apartment complexes -- no security, all people wandering around at all hours so nobody cares. At the same time nobody there has any friends to give things to, nobody fixes anything, everybody has too much money/pride to do a yard sale/car boot/rummage sale and they usually have good stuff they break and can still be trivially fixed or just get bored of.
