    Some people think actual depression is either: you being sorry for yourself, which they then blame on you and offer no support, or they think it’s just you being in a bad mood, which they get mad at because you are supposed to be able to snap out of a bad mood and be positive and never have anything wrong with you

    It hurt worse when my mom said it. My sister is egocentric so I don’t give a flip, it just hurts that more than one person has gotten this idea... they’re both of the latter type of person btw

    theres much more to it than that. Some people think you have to have a bad life to be allowed to have depression, some people think it doesn’t exist. To be fair I’ve never been diagnosed by an official

    Whenever somebody does not understand/accept depression they can be happy because they never experienced it themselves.
    Family should never say something like "move out" because of depression. Shameful.

    Diagnosis and treatment by a "professional": I'm pretty ambivalent about this. Not a thing that fits into 420 chars.
