    Why didn't you just boot another distro from a live USB, mount your internal drive then back up your files that way?

    yep, and all data on the USB that wasn't flashed gets deleted everytime you reboot

    Gotcha. What I'd have done is boot from that USB drive, connect to the internet with the live OS and upload my stuff to a cloud storage, then reinstall.

    I also found KDE Neon to break much more often than other distros (even more than my Arch install). If you like KDE I recommend moving to Kubuntu, Manjaro KDE or Arch. (From the most beginner friendly to the least.) Void is also promising (and I'm sure everyone has their own recommendations) I just didn't include it because I feel its documentation isn't as fleshed out as Arch Wiki.
