    I wouldn't say it died just because Ninty released the final major update. Sure, there won't be much new stuff for people to look forward to anymore, but they've just started using these new parts and will continue mastering them in the coming months.

    Also, since Mario Maker 2 is the latest game in the franchise and because of how unique it is, people will most likely go on playing it for years to come, same thing with Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon 2.

    Video games can't really go out with a bang at all anyway, people just gradually stop playing them over time, but good ones are picked up over and over again, decades (and maybe even more!) after release. If we're looking at the number of players alone, the only way a game can technically go out with a bang is if it were a live service that suddenly got taken down in the peak of its popularity.

    The Switch will not lost its online functionality for a long time, though.
    Also, knowing this community, they are more than willing to revive online services for Nintendo consoles (refer to Wiimmfi and RiiConnect24).
