You realize PS3 has been emulatable for a good 3-5 years now depending on the game, right?:P
With a dual-core processor, 8 gigs of ram, and using the integrated graphics of my AMD A8, not for me. I did try it, though. I got a smokin' hot 5 FPS, with a peak of 8. Dropping $60 on a PS3 and ensuring it'll just work flawlessly was just a better investment for me.
Well, up to you honestly...
Also, pretty sure A8 is quad-core... With a 6-core FX I can get ~20FPS minimum on a lot of games, so it doesn't really take much to emulate if you don't mind couple glitches. But yeah, 60$ isn't half bad, but it absolutely needs a specific FW to be hackable otherwise it's a pain.
Are you sure? The guide I followed got me on HEN with the latest firmware..
And the A8 is technically quad-core but effectively dual-core. The rest of its cores are dedicated to graphics.
I had a family member who was selling theirs, and $60 for a slim.. it was perfect.
First I'm hearing of cores being dedicated to graphics, that's not how APUs work, APUs use an otherwise unused section of the CPU and the GPU, not the base specs. Are you sure you have installed the drivers to unlock the cores? AMD CPUs from the FX-early APU era come with all cores from the 3rd one and on locked and you need to unlock them...
As for PS3, from what I remember from PS3 hacking, only FW2.55 is hackable straight away, with all others needing to either update to that or downgrade (and downgrading is a PAIN).
.... OH MY GOSH.
I don't think I ever installed the drivers for this CPU. I'm a fuckin' idiot, holy shit..
I'm on 4.85, and it's a hack that you activate on each boot, not a full-on permanent one. It's really simple though, just launch it from the home screen, it'll do a little animation, then bring you back to the XMB with homebrew enabled.
Nevermind. I did install them, it was just showing up odd in device manager. Neeevermind..
Did some looking up, A8 apparently isn't unlockable, which is a pity, turns out that AMD was lasering the cores out starting with A6 because of the high demand for dual-cores, so similar to Ryzens, the cores locked off are unusable... Sempron, Athlon, FX, etc. (generally the older ones) are unlockable though, so my bad.
