Steam Deck can now be purchased without reservation, Dock is now available

Valve released a video today announcing they will be removing the wishlist for the Steam Deck, and will now be converting to a full-on purchase instead of a reservation list. This means anyone interested can now make a purchase directly of their preferred version of the Steam Deck right away, without waiting for a confirmation on any kind of reservation.

Not only that, but alongside this announcement, Valve also shared the news that their long-awaited Dock Station for the Steam Deck is now available as well.
People interested in purchasing a Steam Deck directly can visit Valve's Steam Deck official website, and for those who already have a Deck and want to get the official dock for it, they can purchase the dock in the website as well.

It's worth noting that you can purchase it in countries where it was already available for reservation.
Countries which didn't have the option to reserve one still remain the same.
Yeah. I'd like to purchase it. I have my ways on how to ship it. But steam requires a validated account in the supported region. I can't make one even after using VPN 🤣.

Steam deck's dock design is a fail in my books. That cable will break overtime.

Yeah same.
I would purchase one already if it weren't by the idiotic decision of locking up accounts to the country.
I can get easily ship it to the US and get it from there, but noooooo you have to wait until Mexico is in the list or you can't have it.

That can only mean sales have slowed down. The next step will be prices going down, hopefully.
They have to open up sales to more regions first, so I wouldn't count on that for quite some time. Especially considering they're probably taking a loss on each unit sold already, when comparable portable PCs are going for $900+.

It includes a $25 power supply so the price is reasonable compared to similar docks. Although, I don't know why they didn't just sell it without for $65 since the Deck already comes with one.
Power supplies are easy to mass produce and their manufacturing costs are way less than $25. Bundling those useless things with the actual product raises the markup significantly. I also doubt excluding them would lower the price by $25.

The moral of the story is that you should be careful when applying common sense to economics.

Unfortunately, I can't even make any reservation for it in my country.
You think at some point it'll be sold in physical stores?
If it will be successful enough, why not?

I'm hoping we will see a teardown of the dock within the next few days. While I'm able to fix a broken cable like that by just soldering in a new one, it would be really nice to know if the thing is connected to its own daughter board and can just be swapped out with just a few screws. Which would make the cable being permanently attached an actual non-issue since this way it's anchored so you can't lose it but still trivial to replace with a 15 minute investment.
