Super Mario Bros. Movie Direct - Roundup

After several years of secrecy, we'll finally get our world premiere and first look into the Super Mario Bros. movie being developed by Illumination and distributed by Universal Pictures.

Nintendo fans are eagerly awaiting to know how their beloved character would look like in this new iteration of the franchise, and most importantly, the curiosity to know how said characters will sound with the... peculiar casting announced back earlier this year.

What kind of surprises would the trailer have in store?
Follow us as we go through the unveiling of this new leap in Nintendo's history with their first new movie in decades.

And it begins!
  • We start off with some words by Shigeru Miyamoto about the movie as an introduction.
  • Focus changes to Chris Meledandri, the head at Illumination working with Nintendo to bring the Mario movie to life, mentioning they're about to finish the animation of the film's this week, and next comes lighting and compositing.
  • They're working with Koji Kondo for the music and audio of the film.
  • Miyamoto shifts focus to Chris Pratt, the voice of Mario, who mentions some of his memories playing Nintendo games.
  • Next up is Jack Black, who will be voicing Bowser in the film. Some quirky dialogue from him and shares his excitement to work with Nintendo and Illumination.

  • The trailer begins! We start with some fire falling form the sky, which shows Bowser's ship flying over to a Kingdom of ice, and Kamek makes an appearance introducing Bowser.
  • The kingdom seems to be populated with penguins, and Bowser makes quick work of them to find a Star.
  • We get to see Mario next, appearing in what seems to be the Mushroom Kingdom. He seems surprised to be there, and gets startled by a Toad.
  • The film's logo comes next, and then we get a quick glimpse of Luigi running away from some Dry Bones to close up the trailer.

  • Some finishing words by Miyamoto yet again, and that wraps up the movie's Direct!

They will lose money if this movie get out without a companion game, but Sega did this, Nintendo can do it too.

Today I believe that another ROM to the paid online service is the most far they will go on gaming, maybe not even that...

After seeing the trailer, damn they REALLY nailed the casting with Jack Black as Bowser.
As for Chris Pratt as Mario, leaves a bit to be desired, but hopefully he can shine a little better once more footage gets released.
I'll give it a chance, the animation is really good, piss myself laughing if someone does a Charles Martinet fan dub after the Movie releases lol

I think Jack Black as Bowser will be the best choice of all based on the trailer. Still not convinced Chris Pratt as Mario was a good choice but it'd be better than the voice Charles Martinet does for the games. His voice works really well in the games but it would get annoying in a movie where he talks a lot. CGI looks great.

Visually - looks pretty good! 9/10

Seems to capture the overall spirit of Mario pretty well. Need to see more though.

Jack Black's Bowser - solid 7/10

Chris Pratt is..... Chris Pratt? 2/10

So far the only negative for me is Mario... Pratt really made little effort... I'll admit that I'm biased toward Martinet as Mario... So... Willing to give this a chance! The animation and art style is pretty good. Jack Black left a positive impression with the Bowser voice..

I don't think Charles Martinet would make a good movie Mario to be honest.
He's already near-retirement from the character, and his voice as Mario has really been changing over the years (as normal).

I think their choice of casting someone else might work well enough, we'll just have to wait and see if Pratt's final voice acting is good enough to be at least decent.

It's probably a hot take but Jack Black as Bowser isn't as great as I expected. His voice is too high for the character imo, I think toning it down with special effects or something would've been way better.
