ploggy Hi! Are you distrated you didn't see previous post? ;-)

Anyway, is there no dev to really solve this problem for good? Is it a Forwarder problem? A Retroarch app problem? Or a 50_hbl_installer.rpx problem?
The thing is, it's not a real solution, because this gets rid of the exploit and it's always useful to have it!
Problem is: Having the exploit [On] seems to also make some other things not to work like this forwarder......

Hi. I'm fine thanks :) still checking here there and everywhere just haven't posted much. :D Stuff is still progressing in the background, just not ready for prime time yet ;)

Try renaming the 50_hbl_installer.rpx file in SD:\wiiu\environments\tiramisu\modules\setup to something else..
eg.. 50_hbl_installer.rpxnope and see if that gets the Retroarch Channel booting correctly.
OK that fixed it but not a great long term fix lol.

Anyway next problem I have is nothing seems to work on the online updater. I can't update cores or do anything really in the updater.

Concerning Retroarch, I think it's the Same problem for all of us: Impossible to download cores or others udpates.
You have to set them manually.

The Online Updater thing seems to be a problem of with the online connectivity on WiiU, that and the FS access to files and unzipping them.
It's easier to just remove the SD, copy-paste the latest RA package and put it back.

It's a problem with how the Retroarch channel is made, to fix it we would need to fix the procui loop so a standard Channel can be made that exits Retroarch correctly :)

Thats an issue that has crept in recently and has already been fixed :) it should be on the buildbot tomorrow probably :D

This was the issue https://github.com/libretro/RetroArch/commit/714878783a980eb956779857d3a668bf28d3a220

EDIT:
I brought up the issue about folder creation not working on WiiU too hopefully that can finally be squashed :)

Knowing that, does that mean no one knows how to fix it? At least, we all know now it's a Forwarder to an *.Elf problem.
Any specialist around on GBATEMP?

I've spent the last few years asking people if they were willing to help but none wanted to do it (their choice of course) :)
I think what will eventually happen is Retroarch will be ported to Aroma which will include a working procui loop, which will then allow cores to be loaded from the WiiU Menu directly, no need for Channels at all.. hopefully single rom loaders too :)

@Maschell said that doing that makes it no longer aroma. if you've noticed, all the homebrew that was on the home menu should now be gone. I guess it makes it tiramisu or something at that point.

Nope my friend I had to remove the 50_hbl_installer.rpx in tiramisu otherwise RetroArch would not boot. In Aroma from what Ploggy and others have said retroarch doesn't work at all no matter what you do.

As for Aroma it does a lot of amazing things and some other things by the devs are totally stupid. I will return to it one day but Tiramisu seems like the better option for me at the moment.

@ploggy, is the channel launcher in the op an actual channel or a forwarder??

I seem to revert back to an older build when using it and it's messed up all my favourites list into jibberish! Not sure if it's that or when changing cores for different games.

There has only ever been 1 Retroarch Channel, sounds like your booting into an older core from your core folder, make sure they are all updated. :)

I believe I found it, using frodo c64 which hasn't been updated since 2018 so that probably why! Thanks man.

Re the channel tho... Is it a channel or forwarder? I tried to create a forwarder which works but only reboots retroarch when trying to exit!

Its a hack job channel made by a guy that has long since left the scene, the channel is a kind of forwarder that loads a core from the retroarch/core folder that's hacked up in a way that lets the app exit.. I believe it uses the HBL code to exit or something, im not sure.

You wont have any luck making your own channel since it wont exit because etroarch doesn't have a working procui loop (most old WiiU HB doesn't) which is 100% needed for retroarch to exit as a channel (unless you use the hack job channel of course) :P

Cool, thanks for that. Just wanted to make sure that it was loading the same rpx as in my hbl and not a prepacked one. Just wanting to customise the icon and stuff that's all!

I take it your referring to 1942 or something core? Believe I've read that many moons ago!

Post automatically merged:

Not sure how they can fix this issue but when using the content downloader some content is downloaded as a zip. On the PC version of Retroarch the zip is then unzipped. But this does not happen on the WiiU version. So if you do download something on the WiiU say for instance Cave Story you then have to put the sd card into your PC to unzip what you have downloaded. Making the whole point of downloading content directly using the WiiU rather pointless.
This issue is fixed!

Thanks to gblues content downloader is now working!! that means Overlays/Assets etc. should all download and extract correctly, Make sure to update all your cores, better off doing it manually just to be sure :P https://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/nintendo/wiiu/ (bottom link) ;)

Game remap files are now saved correctly.

Downloading Thumbnails for your Playlists also works too.
!If you scanned you roms with the Manual Scan option make sure your roms are correctly named to match what the Thumnail.png expects otherwise your thumbnails will not download!
You can see here: http://thumbnails.libretro.com/
If you use the Scan Directory option romname wont matter since it scans the roms CRC ;)
(make sure your loaded into a Core before you use the Scan Directory option)

I don't know if it's worth opening a issue on github for, but attempting to move saves over from another Retroarch install is a good reminder that the default directory settings of Retroarch on Wii U seems to be a decade out of date or something.

Instead of retroarch/saves it's retroarch/roms/savegames or something insane like that.

Its Retroarch/cores/savefiles or savestates :) You could make an issue on github about it if you wish, the problem is most people who use Retroarch WiiU are used to it's location by now and changing it would probably cause more issues than it solves.

Hello :)

I would have liked to know if there is any news on the support for the N64 via retroach? There was some good news a while back on this that the dynarec was on the right track but since then no news... it would be nice if the N64 was available on the Wii U. That would make it the console Ultimate Nintendo Emulator (Excluding 3DS & Switch)

Probably never. You’d be better off injecting N64 VC.
