maybe you can try to split your nsps with https://github.com/dezem/SAK/releases then place the split nsps on your sd card and install them with this https://github.com/rashevskyv/dbi/releases
Well, you do have Tinwoo so you can use it (or DBI as Others have mentioned.) So you’re not blocked from installing in the short term while we figure this out.
I have a couple more things to check.
Please send a screenshot of your System -> Settings
We’ve been able to install via Tinwoo over USB. DBI is a fantastic installer as well. We’re just trying to figure out why Tinfoil specifically is misbehaving.
Was hoping for something to be outdated. Everything looks perfect.
e: please post the contents of your /bootloader/hekate_ipl.ini file.
One last thing we can try…
Lets use the built in Data Manager to delete the Tinfoil title
delete /tinfoil and /switch/tinfoil completely from your SDCard
Make sure you still have the latest tinfoil.nro installer in your /switch directory.
Reboot your switch.
Use Tinwoo to reinstall Othello.
Exit out of Tinwoo
Navigate to your Othello game tile, hold down the R button and select Othello…continue to hold R until HBL fully comes up.
Reinstall Tinfoil using the Timfoil installer.
Exit out of HBL by pressing the home button.
Start Tinfoil and see if USBFS is set up (set it up if it’s not already.)
Attempt to install the nsp of a game on your nut server.

You have everythng correct.
There really is no reason for Tinfoil not to work.
Our tests show that Atmosphere is working, Sigpatches are good, we can install with other installers…it’s just Tinfoil.
ok following the directions, I reinstalled Othello on Tinwoo, now reinstalling Tinfoil and found that usb is back alongside usbfs. I was able to install the update nsp for Pokemon Brilliant Diamond. gonna try to do the same for Pokemon Sword, Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Animal Crossing New Horizons.
Edit: Pokemon Sword is giving me the "failed to open cnmt" error as well as "Unknown NCA magic (decryption failed?): 224657831" error. though it installed without a problem on tinwoo

ya for the most part, I'll try tinfoil again with an update for Animal Crossing New Horizon
Edit: already did the Konami code, tried to install the update for Animal Crossing New Horizon and I got the "failed to open cnmt" message and the "Unknown NCA magic (decryption failed?): 3583667827" message

Please download fusee.bin from the Atmosphere GitHub page:

Just overwrite the one you have in /bootloader/payloads/fusee.bin

nope, I overwrote the fusee.bin with the one I downloaded from the link above, tried the nsp for an update for Super Smash Bros on tinfoil and it tells me "Failed to import ticket! This is usually caused by missing sigpatches for your firmware or a corrupted ticket database"

Appreciate your patience. We know Tinwoo works and DBI, as others have mentioned, would likely work as well, so you can absolutely continue on your merry way and fully enjoy your Switch without Tinfoil by using either of those fine installers. I’m honestly just curious how this has broken and will keep at it until we fix it or you get tired of trying.
If you’re still with me here are two things we can try:
1) if you can still see an option in Tinfoil to do USB instead of USBFS, let’s try that. This is just a quick test of so,ething you mentioned that I dont want to leave on the table.
2) Lets use SAK to split the SSB nsp into an archive.

This will give us a folder of sub 4G files on your PC tha we can copy over to your SDCard.
Once the file is split and moved, let’s use Tinfoil’s File Browser to browse sdmc:/
Navigate to the archive you copied over and try to install the SSB archive and let’s see if we get the same error.
