Here's your first look at the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie!

Nintendo have given us the first glimpse at the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie with a poster showcasing Mario, who is surrounded by Toad's looking up at Peach's castle which adorns the top of a very Mario-esque rounded hill off in the distance.

The Untitled Mario film which is releasing in April 2023 is currently in the works by Illumination who were noticeably responsible for the Despicable Me movies.

This comes alongside an announcement for an upcoming Nintendo Direct that will be focusing on the The Super Mario Bros. Movie and is scheduled for this Thursday - 1:05 p.m. PT / 20:05 GMT.

These realistic details feel a bit unnecessary for a animated movie like this.

In my 31+ years as a gamer, I never, ever thought that Mario's as$ would be a topic.
People were trying to measure Luigi's penis when Mario Tennis Aces came out and it became news on a bunch of sites.

it'll be a nice, safe, standard story. nothing especially good or noteable, but not overly offensive. a "eh, it was fine" movie. it won't be a wreck-it-ralph, but it also won't be a pixels.

I'll watch its last week in theaters and then never again lol.
A good enough movie?

now the million dollar question: is the toad with the backpack the one voiced by keegan michael key or are all of them voiced by him?? is that toad going to be mario's wacky sidekick??
Toads will be the new minions?

Ubisoft at the helm of a game with a unique story isn't entirely the same thing as Illumination doing a Mario movie. Not to mention, you can't patch a movie if it's bad on day one...
Yes they can, that's why they make private screening sessions weeks before and some times even change all the movie because the reviews

Why the Mario overall is like denim?

Whoa... Nintendo MUST have had their hand in this, in order for Illumination to make the Toads look nearly EXACTLY to detail of how Miyamoto designed them. I'm not even kidding; I actually have a lot of hope for this movie.

Wow. So has Mickey Mouse Clubhouse added high-end shadows affecting a lot of clothes polygons finally? I haven't seen the thing like in 10 years.
No, I'm being overly dramatic. The Mickey show is rendered in "fullbright", which is basically a zero budget render technique for rendering something as fast as possible without having to worry about any lighting calculations during the render. The render in the OP doesn't look very good, it actually kind of looks like a step backwards from Mario's norm. I just can't pinpoint what's off about it.

Edit: Now that I took another look, I noticed there's no depth-of-field anywhere, which is what makes it look weird for me; And no atmospheric fog either. But there's still something slightly off about the lighting too.

I'm guessing that's intentional as it could probably be a picture rendered meant to be a poster, and not meant to be a screen capture from the actual animation.

Without depth-of-field, you get easily and to the front a lot of elements without it looking weird on a still picture.

Damn. I guess my brain did a good job forgetting that one.

Not gonna happen twice, sadly, now that you brought it up again.:sad:
