Here's your first look at the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie!

smb-movie.jpg

Nintendo have given us the first glimpse at the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie with a poster showcasing Mario, who is surrounded by Toad's looking up at Peach's castle which adorns the top of a very Mario-esque rounded hill off in the distance.

The Untitled Mario film which is releasing in April 2023 is currently in the works by Illumination who were noticeably responsible for the Despicable Me movies.

This comes alongside an announcement for an upcoming Nintendo Direct that will be focusing on the The Super Mario Bros. Movie and is scheduled for this Thursday - 1:05 p.m. PT / 20:05 GMT.

This is exactly like when Ubisoft announced the first Mario & Rabbids game and everyone was saying Ubisoft was going to release poop because of their past bugged releases.

It turned out to be a great and solid game with not many noticeable bugs that seemed developed by Nintendo themselves. Nintendo has also been supervising this closely, people. No way they would allow stupid things like everything everyone says about Minions and whatnot if that could affect negatively their main IP.

Reminds me of the first time I saw Mario in SSBM with the high def jeans - I was so impressed

Ubisoft at the helm of a game with a unique story isn't entirely the same thing as Illumination doing a Mario movie. Not to mention, you can't patch a movie if it's bad on day one...

What are you talking about?

Illumination didn't "poop out" a story from their ass. Everything was discussed and worked with Miyamoto and Nintendo. If the story is poop, it will be Nintendo's fault.

Again, Nintendo wouldn't allow their IP to be affected negatively just because laughs, they wouldn't leave their IP out like that, giving free pass for everything the animation studio wanted, not after the Zelda CDi and 90's Mario Movie disasters.

"So far, there aren’t any ideas that are set in stone for a Super Mario movie. This is partially due to Meledandri’s tendency to be cost- and time-conscious when creating a film. However, Miyamoto and him have been meeting frequently to attempt to “hash out the screenplay” and create a successful franchise. Once they do figure out exactly where they want to go with the film, Miyamoto will make an official announcement.

Thus, it is not quite certain when (or even if) the Super Mario animated film will come to light. Should they reach a creative dead-end they will simply quit, according to Miyamoto."

Now where did I say Illumination made the story? You're reading WAY too much into that response. I'm just saying there's a bit of a difference in a game vs. movie. Nintendo being at the helm just adds a bit of a reassurance, but a guarantee.

"Ubisoft at the helm of a game with a unique story"

Why can't Illumination also be "at the helm of a movie with a unique story"?

I thought you made a point on Ubisoft having a unique story because of being Ubisoft and Illumination not, because, well, they would make a terrible story.

Nintendo said several times by now that the movie will be something "never seen before" in the Mario universe. So, there's the "unique", even if it's full of kids movies cliches when released.

I knew the rendering would come out looking cheap like the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. 🙄

I had low expectations, and I'm still disappointed.
Wow. So has Mickey Mouse Clubhouse added high-end shadows affecting a lot of clothes polygons finally? I haven't seen the thing like in 10 years.

So, you're cherry picking my words... Okay... Let me reiterate the last bit of my previous comment. Nintendo being at the helm is not a guarantee of quality. A Mario movie is risky for several reasons and people are allowed to be skeptical. The key difference between this and Ubisoft's game here is that unless they opt to delay due to feedback from the reveal, what we get is what we get.

I simply tried to explain why I thought you were talking about a bad story by Illumination vs Ubisoft.

So, just for the sake of clarifying things up, why "Ubisoft at the helm of a game with a unique story isn't entirely the same thing as Illumination doing a Mario movie"?

The story being supervised closely by Nintendo in both cases.

It's gonna be shit.
Visually looks great. Its just going to come down to voice work and story telling. I however would like to mention that Miyamoto had 1 complaint about the 90s live action Mario movie. And that was that is stayed too close to the source material.

Back then source material wasn't as abundant as today's source material.
