Get hype! :yayps3:

Fun fact about Sony's 1st party controllers: Since at least the Dual Shock 2, there has been a single piece of rubber between the physical D-pad that houses the contacts (the metal bits that actually interact with the circuitry to make your button-presses do something). The D-pad itself is ALSO a single piece of plastic, which just looks like 4 different buttons because the controller case divides the pad into 4 (this should be obvious to anyone who has used it long enough - all of the buttons dip a little when you press one side hard enough).

This piece of rubber is the only thing creating resistance when you push one of the d-pad buttons down, so it needs to be somewhat flexible, but thick enough to withstand multiple (like, 100s of 1000s) of presses without wearing down. And this was the case until the DS4, when Sony decided to cheap out and create a much lighter and flimsier rubber divider between the D-pad and the circuitry.

As a result, all 1st party PS4 controllers will eventually stop working - you'll notice the XMB has a mind of its own, menus simply won't work, etc. The reason being that the contact, which should spring back up with the D-pad in its rubber casing, stays stuck to the circuitry, indefinitely pressing whatever button that contact is associated with. :hateit:

The solution? Buy 3rd party controllers! Even the really cheap 3rd party controllers use hefty, if uncomfortable, parts for this particular component. I've personally taken my DS3 apart (long story, but the PS3 Slims have a WHOLE other controller issue...) and thrown the rubber pad into the DS4... which totally doesn't fit, BUT doesn't cause buttons to get stuck, and allows you to play the 100s of games that don't require a D-pad at all...
