yeah I do have nsp files showing up on nut.exe (they are on a seperate harddrive but nut is directed to that directory)
In Device Manager on your PC, what drivers are being used by your tinfoil/Switch device? You can find them under properties/drivers.

please share a screenshot of the connection properties within Tinfoil as welll…just for this connection.

on the device manager it shows it's using the libusbK driver.

where would I be able to find the connection properties in tinfoil?
You may need to update the driver and change it to be the tinfoil driver that’s installed by tinfoil_driver.exe. It should clearly state Tinfoil.

Go to File Browser in Tinfoil on your switch and select the entry you are using to connect and then press X to edit. It will bring up the config of that source.

ok tried updating the driver with the one from tinfoil_driver.exe but it's still under the libusbK folder listed as Switch(homebrew)

and here's the best I could do to take a screenshot of my connection properties on tinfoil. weird thing is usb disappeared from the tinfoil file browser folder. and forgive the quality of the screenshot, my phone is a piece of junk, and it doesn't take good quality pics

Disable that connection or change it to just USB instead of USBFS.

End state you just want one USB connection enabled…

was able to delete it.
Great. Let’s add a new one by going to the File Browser section and pressing (-)

Make sure this new one uses USB as the protocol and just name it usb and let’s see if that helps anything.

hmm this is weird, when I go to choose protocol, I don't see usb on the list. just usbfs and usbhd

it detects nut now, but while trying to install a nsp update file for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, it gives me the failed to import ticket error message.

"Failed to import ticket! This is usually caused by missing sigpatches for your firmware or a corrupted ticket database"

Please delete Othello and try to install it again via nut.exe on your PC over usbfs.
