I got a wiikey v1-chipped wii. Interestingly, the disc channel can load DVD-R backup only. It shows error when loading my legit game disc. Both backup and legit disc are Wii Sports Resort (NTSC-J). Both discs work on other chipped wii so the discs are not defective. Tried updating all IOS/cISO, installing HBC, bootmii and priiloader does not help, I am thinking to check and update wiikey firmware.

Two questions in mind.
1) From the 1.99 beta disc image, it shows a normal PC optical disc layout with bootldr.dol and 0wiikeyUP.bin. Can I rename it to boot.dol and load it from homebrew channel?
2) Anyway to check the firmware version of wiikey?

Thanks dude

I'm reading about WiiKey in another forum in Spanish and literally they're saying the following:
...si no se ha instalado correctamente, asi como una mala lectura de los discos, o incluso no leer ni los juegos originales.
...which literary translates to:
"...if it's been improperly installed, discs will be read partially, or even, won't read original discs at all"

I'm assuming, based on that, that you didn't installed it properly.

"But it worked 2 hours ago, now it doesn't"
Well, shit happens. Maybe it desoldered? Cold soldering points? Or just plain died.

Not judging, but consider removing that chip and opt for hacking your console using ModMii.

Nintendo patched out the trucha bug in later system updates, meaning fake-signed discs won't work. Try forcing the "System Menu" IOS with either cIOS '249' or '250' through "Priiloader", as that works for me just fine.

Regarding your questions: 1.) No, renaming the DOL executable and running it through HBC won't work, as its designed to run through GameCube-mode. 2.) There's no way of telling what firmware version is flashed onto the chip. The later versions support protection fixes for "Super Mario Galaxy" and "NSMB Wii". Try making a backup copy of those games, burn it to a DVD-R, and see if it works. If you get "Error 001" or any other error, then your WiiKey has most likely got an older firmware version.

Thanks.
Tried on HBC and HBC complains that it is not a valid wii application
Tried loading the ISO directly using Nintendont but got a black screen.
Tried on Dolphin and it shows the menu correctly.

Maybe the only way to test it is finding some blank DVDR from my junk.

Homebrew GameCube discs have a different disc layout compared to the original GameCube discs. They use the ISO9600 format, hence why you can see the files on your PC and with the original GameCube discs you cannot. Another problem is that these won't boot in "Nintendont" like you've just mentioned or even in "NeoGamma", as I have tried this beforehand.

Most likely you can however just convert boot.elf to boot.dol, and use it like regular homebrew placed: sd:\apps\yourappname\

Like "boris1" said, he tried that and it said that it wasn't a Wii application, I know what you're trying to say though. HBC later resorted to utilising .DOL files for applications as opposed to .ELF.

wierd since original exploit and HBC installer was writtel in Gamecube code not wii code, later rebuilt in wii code. i thought that wii homebrew channel would still accept gc code.

you might be able to check the version with the config disc. and, from what I remember (have a wiikey v1 as well), you can only update it with a burned disc. the size is very small, so you have to use a padding utility to get it to the right size to where the wii will accept it.
