No overclocking to my knowledge. I had bought this switch bricked. It would get stuck on the 2nd boot logo every time I tried to boot it. So I installed CFW to see if that would get things going. Every time I try to launch in the CFW it gives me this error

Mystery meat. Yuck!

Does it boot OFW correctly now (i.e. did you fix the brick situation?)

Which guide did you follow to install CFW?

couple quick things to try:

Unfortunately no. Still Gets stuck on the 2nd boot logo OFW. Also gets stuck on 2nd boot logo when trying to enter maintenance mode.
I first followed "The NEW BEST Homebrew/Mod installation guide for Switch" by Needles. but got the error code and couldn't fix it so I deleted everything.
I then tried this one "How To Mod Your Switch (14.1.2)" by Kiana Foote. Same issue. Deleted everything.
So I tried this one last "ULTIMATE Switch Jailbreak Guide - All You Need To Know [2022]" by Better Gaming. Continued to get the error. (Only step in this process that I couldn't follow was changing the DNS because I can't boot the system)

It is bad that you follow youtubes video as tutorial.

So bottom line you started off with OFW issues. It’s a good thought, but adding CFW on top of a bad OFW won’t change much. You will need to get the OFW issues sorted out first. Does it crash on the 2nd boot logo with the same PCV error or does it just sit there?

It'll just sit there on the 2nd boot logo.

So here’s a last ditch thing to try…boot it up in OFW and leave it. Let it sit overnight and fully drain the battery. In the morning you will take your completely dead switch and put it on the charger for a few minutes and then try to boot. There have been several folks that were caught in this “boot loop” that fixed their switch this way.

I can try this but I can say that the battery has been fully drained already. I bought this switch about 3 or 4 months ago and worked on it a bit before, Thought it was the wifi chip so tried reballing that and that was unsuccessful. I then tried booting in maintenance mode again and then it wouldn't turn on at all. not even turning onto the 2nd boot logo. Tried charging over night and still nothing, So I had thought the battery was fried. That was about 3 or 4 months ago like I said, so When I charged it and it turned on yesterday I was surprised.

Good to know. If you are reballing your own BGAs you probably have the skills to dive deep and start troubleshooting the rest of the hardware. I would look at the power chip next since it threw a PCV error.

I know just enough to mess around with the boards. I'll see what I can do. At this point I would just like to replace whatever is causing the booting issue.

Hi guys. I was given a jailbroken v1 switch and I'm currently trying to update everything. I really don't know what I'm doing but I've followed enough videos and papers to update everything via github aka atmosphere and hekete. I got awoo installer, transferred games BUT only maybe 3 games out of 20 work on the system. As far as I know I have the most updated sigpatches from github put out about 1 month ago. Can anyone point me in the right direction, know that I'm a foetus when it comes to knowing what I'm doing I've been learning the last 3 days from zero to this far. The message I get is "unable to start software, return to the home menu and start again" This example was from Mario kart with the latest version apart from the new DLC which won't install which is fine it's just bonus tracks etc. Any guidance greatly appreciated. If anyone wants to baby talk me via discord or something let me know for my add. Willing to pay folks for their time if need be. Just want this working. Thanks troops.

Hi all. I recently ran through the setup for CFW using Atmospheré and went through all the precautions to block nintendo servers. The only thing on my switch is SSBU which i installed before modding since the only mod i'm interested is the training mod, and this switch is essentially going to be dedicated to that alone. This is NOT my primary console; i bought an OLED and made that my primary while i reserved this switch for training only. Upon trying to run SSBU i keep getting that pesky 'checking if the software can be played' message, which doesn't resolve since the connection to nintendo is blocked. Any advice on circumventing this? (Oh yeah, i also installed sigpatches to see if that would fix it– it did not.) The only solution I can think of is to use the sysNAND (all my mod stuff is on emuMMC) to set this console as my primary, verify the software one time to get access, and then take this switch off of the grid by never connecting to nintendo ever. Then, just set my OLED as my primary once more, and there is no way for this switch to know that it isn't the primary. Would that work? does this make any sense?
Thanks in advance!

Solved, thank you.

Whats the point of including CFW(sysMMC) in the ini. Setup? Surely system and emummc is all one needs? Cfw sysmmc seems like you are take unecessary risk...

OK - I think I'm really close here - new version of atmosphere, hekate, hbmenu, have new OFW ready to install & on SD...

But - when I try to launch HBmenu through a game - I get an error "unable to start software"

Works fine in applet mode, - any thoughts? Thanks again for all your help.
It sounds like you are either missing or didn't update the patches to launch backups. In either case, download the latest ones from this thread.

What firmware is your console currently on?

There are many reasons. For example, there are certain actions that can only be done in CFW sysMMC such as updating the firmware without burning fuses or for the maniacs out there, the "safer" way to play with mods online. Also, emuMMC isn't and wasn't always the standard. emuMMC was developed quite a long time after the scene had started so booting CFW on sysMMC was the only option. But more importantly, not everyone has access to emuMMC. Unlike the 3DS, emuMMC on the Switch requires a whopping 32 GB of free space which not everyone wants to or can afford.

12.0.0 AMS 1.3.2S, Hekete v5. 8. 0. I used the most recent HATS pack from github. There could ofcourse be something I've missed as I'm winging it big time rn. Thanks

Possibly a silly question, sorry if it is.

I have an sx-lite which has an up to date atmosphere emunand. I have never updated the sysnand - never even booted into it - and it is on something like 10.4. I want to update it to the latest version so I can go online but not sure if I can just use the standard nintendo update process. I am sure I read somewhere that the fuses don't get burnt on a modded switch.

Yes, you can (and absolutely should) use the regular Ninty update service to upgrade your clean Sysnand firmware. If you do this without Hekate as a bootloader, it WILL burn your fuses, but there’s little reason to care with 10.4. As long as you are using Hekate, the fuse count algorithm is skipped anyway.

Don't use HATS. Its not a good pack whatsoever. If you want to use a pre-bundled build of Hekate and Atmosphere, I highly recommend using DeepSea instead. I would also advise you to download your patches from this thread from now on. Its always updated regularly and they are actually verified to work.
