I would say Horizon Chase Turbo, which is a nice game. If I'm wrong, it ought to be in that Nintendolife list that @binkinator provided.

I see what you’re getting at.

The citi-scape is particularly neon…

So I have an v1 switch and wanted to ask a few questions before I start hacking. I plan on using an emunand for pirated games offline using Atmosphere and sysnand for perchased online games.

1. Before starting, should I delete my internet settings on my sysnand or does it not matter?

2. If I use incognito on the emunand and delete the emunand, does that get rid of the incognito?

3. If I want to restore my backed up sysnand if I mess up incognito, does that mean I'll get a ban for messing with the sysnand?

4. If I stack exosphere, DNS MITM, emunand, and incognito, do my odds of not getting banned increase or stay the same?

5. Can I connect to the internet on my emunand using incognito or exopshere with pirated games installed and not get banned?

6. Are the settings on my sysnand copy over to the emunand or do they reset?

7. If the switch sysnand asks for a firmware update, does that mean my emunand will be updated as well?

8, If I accidentally boot into the sysnand through CFW, I will get banned if I have pirated content on the emunand?

9. Is there a way to get rid of the sysnand CFW launch option?

10. Does connecting the switch to an ethernet cable matter if I'm on the sysnand? Does it also matter if I'm using an emunand?

Thanks for reading.

  1. If you're not planning on going online using sysMMC, then I highly recommend deleting the Internet settings since they will be useless otherwise
  2. Incognito maliciously deletes PRODINFO so its technically "active" while there is no PRODINFO but because it deletes it, its not recommended to use
  3. You won't get banned as long as you don't go online when using CFW and/or homebrew. This includes restoring backups which was actually the best way to avoid bans for a long time
  4. They stay the same no matter how many of those you use. They also stay the same if you simply delete the Wi-Fi settings. Its the simplest and most effective option to not get banned.
  5. Yes but I'd recommend using exosphere over incognito for reasons stated in #2
  6. emuMMC is initially made by making a copy of your sysMMC so whatever settings were in sysMMC prior to the creation will be carried over. After emuMMC is created, changes in sysMMC will not affect emuMMC.
  7. sysMMC and emuMMC operate independently of one another. Another way to think about is that emuMMC is basically a second Nintendo Switch console that exists solely on your SD card
  8. As explained in #3, you risk getting banned when going online with any CFW or homebrew, regardless of piracy.
  9. If you're truly that paranoid, you can delete that launch option in your hekate_ipl.ini file
  10. It will only matter when you have setup a wired connection, sysMMC or emuMMC. Without a wired connection, it will not do anything at all

Thanks for the answers. Just as a confirmation, should I delete my internet settings on my sysnand prior to settting up CFW and then set them back up after if I want to access stuff like online for sysnand and tinfoil shops for emunand?

Sure, that way you will guarantee you don't accidentally go online without meaning to.

Hello - I bought a pre modded switch a few years back on version 10.0... is there a guide on how to update to more recent firmware? Everything I search for seems to be from 2018 or 2019....

Is it as simple as just updating atmosphere files on SD card?

Thanks

The guides are that old because the scene already peaked a few years ago so there haven't been many recent developments or anything that would alter how CFW works. In any case, initially you ask for a guide on how to update to a newer firmware version but then ask on updating Atmosphere? Do you want to update your firmware, your CFW, or both? If its CFW, then it really is as simple as updating the atmosphere files on the SD card. Although to be safe, its recommended to delete the old ones before putting the new ones on the SD card otherwise you will end up with artifacts from old CFW builds. If its regarding firmware, you can use the homebrew application Daybreak to update the firmware which comes bundled with Atmosphere. Usage is simple except for the part where it requires the user to download the firmware files of the firmware they wish to update to. Those files are copyrighted so no help cannot be given here but rest assured they are readily available on the Internet. If you meant both, you can technically update in either order but logically, newer versions of CFW will always support older firmware versions unlike older versions of CFW which may not always support newer firmware versions. Therefore, its better to update CFW before firmware.

Thanks - I probably contradicted myself because I don't know what I'm talking about. I'm trying to play games that arent compatible with my firmware version due to its age. If I'm running latest CFW - do I need to update standard firmware as well to accomplish this?

If yes it sounds like the steps are - update CFW (fresh install) - update firmware with daybreak (need to find newer firmware on my own)

Thanks for helping out such a N00b.

Edit - or do I simply update to newest atmosphere and let my gamecard update FW? (Metroid Dread)

You pretty much hit the nail on the head. Yes, you're going to have to update your firmware in order to play newer games. You already seem to know the process but if you follow what I wrote, you will be fine.

Thank you again! Just one more question

So if i understand correctly - after updating CFW, I should be OK to just let my gamecard install OFW 13 - Correct?

Updating the cartridge slot is an irreversible process that will prevent it from being used on lower firmware versions. This matters in case an exploit is discovered on lower firmware versions that require an unupdated cartridge slot such as an untethered coldboot hack. However since this may necessitate the need for purchasing an official game cart, there isn't much reason to hold off on updating the cartridge slot.

Ok so - if I use daybreak then that is the better way long term - theoretically - correct?

Yes, using Daybreak is the way to go.

OK - I think I'm really close here - new version of atmosphere, hekate, hbmenu, have new OFW ready to install & on SD...

But - when I try to launch HBmenu through a game - I get an error "unable to start software"

Works fine in applet mode, - any thoughts? Thanks again for all your help.

Ok now I've noticed that I get this error when trying to launch any title - Ive been troubleshooting have a feeling I'm making things worse not better.

I see why this scene has peaked it's a total PITA LOL. 5 hours just because I want to backup my Metroid cart.

That looks like the PCV module. Are you doing Anything with overclocking? If not, what we’re you doing leading up to this crash?
No overclocking to my knowledge. I had bought this switch bricked. It would get stuck on the 2nd boot logo every time I tried to boot it. So I installed CFW to see if that would get things going. Every time I try to launch in the CFW it gives me this error
