Hello,

First of all, I am sorry if this is not the right place to post this or if my questions are already answered somewhere else, but this is my first post around here and I don't really know my way around.

So I have recently reformatted my Wii console and modded it from scratch again after many years of not using it at all. I am running version 4.3E and I have successfully installed the Homebrew Channel on it. I am using USB Loader GX to run my Wii backups and Nintendont for GameCube games. I keep the games for each platform on two separate 128GB USB pendrives. The one for Wii backups is in WBFS format and I use Wii Backup Manager to add the games. The GameCube drive is in FAT32 format and I use the dedicated program (whose name I cannot recall right now) to install the backups on the drive as well.

For reference, the the drives I bought for this purpose are called Philips FM12FD70D/00.

However, almost none of my games are working as expected.

From my Wii games, only Mario Party 8 and Rayman Origins seem to work flawlessly. Super Paper Mario and TLoZ: Twilight Princess show a black screen right after initiating them, I don't even get to see the Wiimote security strap screen. Animal Crossing Let's Go To The City seems to work fine at first, it lets me enter some buildings, but at some point after roughly 10 minutes the game gets stuck in an endless loading screen after entering a building.

As for the GCN backups, none of them work. Right after I select them on Nintendont, all of them show a blue screen that says "No Signal", which is the same thing being displayed when the Wii is turned off. The console's power button's light stays green, though. I have tested Mario Kart Double Dash, Super Smash Bros. Melee and Pokémon XD. The closest I got to playing the game was hearing Mario's voice saying "Nintendo" in Mario Kart while still seeing the No Signal screen.

For the cIOS and IOS, I followed a tutorial to use SysCheck HDE to analyse my system, then feed the resulting log onto the ModMii PC app and have it create a guide for me to install all the necessary IOS and cIOS. After doing this, I also followed ModMii's USB-Loader configuration guide to install Nintendont and USB Loader GX. So I suppose my system configuration should be alright.

Find below the content of the latest sysCheck.csv file I generated, reflecting the state of my system after all of this process (sorry, it is in Spanish):

I have read that some USB drives enter sleep mode at some point during gameplay, causing games to freeze. I have checked the specific online manual for the USB devices I am using, and there doesn't seem to be any proper software where I can modify a hypothetical sleep timer configuration.

Any ideas on where the issue might lie? Thank you very much in advance for reading through all of this and I hope with your help I can find a solution soon.

Sorry - the wording on my post might have been confusing. The sysCheck in the OP is current. I took it right before turning off my Wii the last time. I followed the same steps as mentioned in the guide.

I'm assuming this is the cIOS 249 that I have:
IOS249[56] (rev 21008, Info: d2x-v8final): Bug Trucha, Acceso NAND, USB 2.0

Hello,

the problem comes from your USB keys

get a single FAT32 external hard drive to put wii and gamecube games on the same hard drive and everything should work.
and choose your external hard drive according to the number of games you want to put on it.

Yep, that cIOS is outdated, use the latest cIOS d2x v10 NO THE ALTERNATIVE and NOT THE vWII version.

try with the next cIOS:

Slot 249, IOS base 57, d2x v10 r52
Slot 250, IOS base 56, d2x v10 r52

More information about the cIOS: (https://gbatemp.net/threads/ciosx-rev21d2x-yet-another-hot-fix.277659/)

IOS249[56] (rev 21008, Info: d2x-v8final):
Yea, you should install the "rev 65535, Info: d2x-v10beta52)" on there. Use ModMii to download the wad file.

The GameCube drive is in FAT32 format and I use the dedicated program (whose name I cannot recall right now) to install the backups on the drive as well.
Both of them are plugged to the system at the same time? If so, port 1 is significantly weaker than port 0 (the lower port when the system is in a horizontal position), and it explains why one of them is not working as it should..

As to the issue with GC games, are you trying to play out-of-region games like NTSC? Because from the syscheck you do have a PAL system, and if you don't have a tv that supports ntsc signal, and you're only using composite cables, NTSC won't display properly (b&w). Also, you should have "Region Free EVERYTHING" and other hacks enabled in Priiloader too..

I would suggest checking the hash of your Wii games in WiiBackupManager (if you haven't already), it's under "tools" in the top banner.

Also, does the usb flash drive that has your Wii games is plugged into port 0 or port 1? And does it pass the "usb initiation" screen when you first launch USBLoaderGX?
I'd also suggest using this modded version of usbloadergx.

Thanks for your answer. Any recommendation that I can buy from Amazon or somewhere reliable? I've been checking the USB Compatibility List, but most of those drives seem to be unavailable now. Should any USB 2.0 HDD drive work just fine? I'm just scared I might spend €50 in a drive that won't work.

Edit: I just saw the other software-related replies. I'll check them and test accordingly when possible, since the Wii is in my parents' house. I'll try to download the WADs so I can apply the solutions when I have the time.

The compatibility list is not 100% accurate, nor does it list every compatible drive there is (that's impossible). It's there for those who are already having trouble with their hdds, to see if someone else has/had the same hdd and confirms that it worked on their system..

Depends on the size and model. Try not to get larger drives like +2TB or more. Not saying that they wouldn't work though, just that there's a higher chance of that happening.
Also, an 2.5" with an hdd enclosure is preferred, and get a y-cable with it if you can.

Hello! I have just been to my parents' home and I am able to provide proper feedback.

I attempted to install "Slot 249, IOS base 57, d2x v10 r52" and "Slot 250, IOS base 56, d2x v10 r52" from ModMii as suggested. I followed the step-by-step tutorial for ModMii on on the cIOSX rev21d2x: Yet Another Hot Fix!!!! thread, However, installation from Multi-Mod Manager was failing for me so I did it from YAWMM (Yet Another WAD Manager Mod). Now these are the two lines on my most recent syscheck from yesterday night (find it below):

However, Super Paper Mario and TLoZ Twilight Princess were still giving a back screen. I changed the "Loader IOS" on the USB Loader GX settings from IOS 249 to IOS 250 in case that would change anything, but I got the same results as before.

In response to CoolMe's post (I think I'm still not allowed to quote on here): No, I am plugging only one at a time, since I did read that port 0 was the one to be used. My Wii pendrive is on port 0 and I do get past the "USB initiation" page. My games are read correctly on the menu, the issues only start once I have started the games. I have also checked that all of my ISOs are PAL region (at least I intentionally searched for and downloaded PAL backups, since my system is European). I do have "Region Free EVERYTHING" enabled on Priiloader as well.

I might give that version of USB Loader GX a try the next time, as I did not try any other loaders. I just downloaded USB Loader GX from a tutorial first and directly from ModMii after.

If no software-based solutions manage to fix the issue, I have been thinking of getting this HDD drive: Western Digital WD1600BEVT Scorpio BLUE HardDisk. It is featured in GBATemp's Compatibility List and it also seems to comply with CoolMe's advise (reasonable capacity and HDD enclosure). However, I am not so sure it is a USB drive compatibility issue, as I have seen reports on ElOtroLado.net's Compatibility List that the Philips Snow Edition 256GB (the same I have but 256GB instead of 128) is compatible with the Wii using IOS 249 as the Loader IOS.

There cases where the one same USB-Stick doesnt work on two WiiU`s with the identical setup. Or they buy a different revision of a same USB-Stick and it doesnt work, because something is changed. You can make a headstand and go for the issue.

If you are using USB-Loader GX version 1272. Alternative try ios 58 as loader ios and patch the slot 251 with base 58 with dx2-v10beta52 and use it as game ios. Both backports are supported then.

You may try USB Loader Wiiflow lite or CFG Loader (Not mainted anymore) if the stick and playing the games work. If yes, you may search for a config problem inside USB Loader GX.

You may also use wii backup manager to automatically copy the game in to the correct path and the integrity of the image will also be verified. Or manual go in the Wii backup manger under tools and verify the hash value

Your syscheck looks correct.

I recommend using it. You can also try with WiiFlow Lite.

If your usb flash drive is formatted as Fat32, format it as wbfs with WiiBackupManager and test again. Make sure to verify the hash of atleast one game to make sure it's not corrupted.
Also make sure that drive path in USBLoaderGX is set to port 0.

I still haven't been able to test those backup loaders, but I have come across a weird issue. I tried to play an original PAL Mario Kart Double Dash disk and it won't launch either, I get a black screen. I have read that this could be because I had installed DIOS MIOS at some point, which I had indeed before a reformatted my Wii system. So the issue with GameCube backups could be due to a wrong MIOS too I suppose since the symptom is the same?

nintendont doesnt use any mios or cios only the stock ios58, if they arent playing is probably due to imcompatible usb device, try an sd card if they boot from there then its the usb.

So both original GC games and burned backups are not working on your system? Were you launching from the Wii's home menu, or usbloadergx?
You can also try launching them from Nintendont.
Can your Wii play Wii original disc (or burned) fine without issues? Cause it could be your disc drive that's failing, scratched discs, and it has nothing to do with your softmods..

Indeed, it seems my system is unable to run both GCN backups via USB and original GCN disks. Wii original disks are working perfectly fine (tested Mario Kart Wii right after), and I keep having the same issues as described in the OP with my Wii backups (for that I will try Wiiflow and some of the options you gave as soon as I can).

I did try to launch the original GCN disk both from the disk channel and from Nintendont. I got a black screen from the disk channel and when launching from Nintendont the component cable input stopped being detected, just as if I had unplugged the device (a little window was popping up asking me to connect a device). In both cases the Wii power button light stayed green.

did you ever tryed using an sd card and using nintendont directly instead of usb?

i also couldnt use real gc disks normaly becuase i had previously installed dios mios lite which breaks real mios and real gc discs, but again nintendont does not run on mios or cios, so use an sd card to see if it works.
