It’s up to you but honestly this port is really good and I for myself am satisfied with it, I actually almost forgot radfordhound was making one until earlier today, I don’t know if he’s still interested in releasing it at this point or not.
It has been so long that Clownacy added support for additional controllers and managed to make the special stages run near full speed (still using SDL2 by the way), which was two of the of the main points of Radfordhound's port.

Also, nothing is preventing you from playing Clownacy's port now and then installing Radfordhound's port later when it is available.
Just wanted to say thank you to the both of you. I have the game all set up with the installer forwarder channel and everything is running fine.

Honestly I don’t think I will update, I don’t like how the special stages instant boost is now only enabled via debug mode, I don’t even use debug.

I liked being able to instantly gain speed to quickly complete a save file, if I wanna play them normally I can just not press X, I honestly don’t see the point into locking them in the first place.

It’s not like I need to prove anything I’ve collected them dozens of times before even in Encore, sometimes (especially when using a mod) I just start a new (no save) game and quickly collect the emeralds to test out super mode, now I can’t do that unless I enable debug.

I’ll make a suggestion though it’s a small shot, how about making a dedicated option in the settings.ini to enable/disable quick boost in the special stages? This way you can turn them on if you want without being tied to debug.

Yeah, I'm also having trouble making mods work. All I want is this simple mod to load, but I can't seem to figure it out.
Second, honestly this mod should just be merged with this port natively.

Edit: to get mods to work you need to enable dev menu in the settings.ini first, then copy the mods that you want to use to [SD root]/RSDK/v5/mods/[your mod] then when you turn on the game tap the top left of the gamepad screen to bring up the dev menu, at the bottom above exit there should be an option for mods, select it then toggle through your mods and enable the ones you want to use then go back and click resume, it should reboot the game with your mods enabled.

Edit 2: you can disable dev menu afterwards if you wish as your enabled mods will save until you disable them again or delete the newly created config file, you can also use said file to bypass versions of Mania that don’t enable dev menu *cough*3ds*cough* to enable your mods on them.

The settings.ini file is automatically generated by Mania?
I don't recall having anything outside of the .rsdk in the v5 folder, which might also explain why I only seem to be getting default Mania without the Plus expansion.

no, you have to download the settings.ini. I had the same problem a few weeks ago when I tested out the wuhb.

btw, the settings.ini is on the port's github. I'm not sure if it's uploaded with each new release, but it's at least with one of them.

How do I load mods with this port?
I want to try out this one:
https://gamebanana.com/mods/download/244376#FileInfo_193166

The Patches folder isn't necessary, I'm just interested in the rest of the stuff inside the Sonic 3 Mania folder.

I got the Settings.ini file working and now Mania Plus loads :)
Unfortunately, the mod I listed here seems to not work properly for soe reason, it locks up when tryingto access the title screen.
Anyone knows of a mod for Mania Plus decomp that modifies both Knuckles and Sonic to their Sonic 3 sprites?

I managed to get one hack working, but it only did half of what I wanted.

Sonic Mania R3shaded effectively converts the Sonic sprites to be closer to those from Sonic 3, but it seems to only modify Sonic, so I still had to seek something that made Knuckles red instead of pinkish.
I tried the Red Knux hack, but that one is really old, about 5 years old or so, and it was made for a really old version of Mania, even before the Plus expansion I believe.

So, I did a little digging, and had to pretty much make a custom fork of the R3shaded mod to also modify the palette of Knuckles, and I think I managed to do just that.
I have attached the mod which seems to be working fine with this port to the WiiU, if there's anyone else interested in it.

This one modified Sonic's sprites to be closer to Sonic 3, as well as Sonic's and Knuckles' colours to be closer to Sonic 3 as well (deep blue Sonic and red Knuckles).

This is something that bugged me about Sonic Mania since the release, I may check this mod out.

If anyone’s interested I can share a slightly modified version of the Amy mod though honestly all I did was restore the original logos the mod still doesn’t run correctly Amy’s default color palette is still red-ish (her pink palette loads correctly once you transform super and it stays even after you lose the transformation until the level resets then back to red) her shirt stays red though but the 3D model loads with the correct colors and everything, also she gets Mighty’s moveset instead of loading her proper moveset, I wish I can fix it but contacting the creators it doesn’t appear they have a fix as of yet.
