No way $379? That price is not real
Seems about right given that there are a number of obvious drawbacks to something like this, most of which are covered by the one three-star review that's up on Amazon already. Pretty much the only use case would be watching movies/TV shows (without subtitles) on a simulated big screen, as text is unreadable.

But I want these, assuming I can still use prescription lenses.
I don't believe you can. You'd have to wear it over your existing glasses or contacts.

Would you rather watch on a power-hungry device or spend huge amounts on a big tv? not really understanding when you could just get these.

I find the potential of AR glasses sooooooo much more exciting and intriguing than VR ever will be. So to see consumer versions this sleek at that affordable of a price point is genuinely pretty awesome. Within a few years, I can see the AR market start to really pick up steam.

Well, just about everybody already has a big TV. Not to mention several people can watch it at once, and text is legible as long as its 1080p or above, thus image clarity is better. Even if you don't already have a TV, $400 will get you a pretty solid one these days, maybe even 4K. These glasses would mostly prove useful on the go, road trips or flights. For my part though I'd rather just take a Steam Deck or Switch.

I actually bought a pair a few weeks ago from Amazon Japan. Well worth it if you have a steam deck or just want to watch stuff while lying down.

To be fair, they are compatible with both Steam Deck and Switch, so they could prove useful to provide more virtual screen space for them. It's just maybe a step too far for me, having a companion device for your companion device. I don't want to be worrying about $1000+ worth of devices on a trip, but I suppose that's normal for people who own just a newer iPhone.

Just imagine all the people walking into traffic or into a fountain or...?
Do like the idea though. Neat to be able to link them together when the tech improves and have mutiplayer experiences, or to enhance driving with HUD driving info, road conditions, weather, etc. Maybe even link them to drones so you can see around you on a HUD in your glasses.
I would call my pair KITT, if I bought them.

Actually, you can. I believe that when you order, you send them your prescription and they put the correct lenses into it. I remember watching a video discussing getting one of these for a Steam Deck, and I was interested enough to go to their site and look more into it.

The tech in AR glasses is still not there yet - the main problem is FoV. nReal has a 52 degrees FoV, which is narrow - half that of typical VR headset. That's why their only selling point is a large TV screen floating in front of you.

They have experimental software to add multiple monitors for productivity usage, again - due to FoV you need to position the screens far away and the 3DoF tracking is terrible. It's not even 6DoF like VR headset, they can't even track properly in 3DoF.

Apple put their AR glasses on hold and worked on the VR headset instead, because the tech is still not there yet. They said we need at least another 10 years before AR glasses is good enough for the mainstream.
