That's the same processor my Razer Blade uses. Vid card is an Nvidia GeF RTX 2080. I wish I had gotten the touch screen with native 4K, 144Ghz. Still, it fills my needs.

Disappointed with the ps5 so far. Incessant 'update, update, update'
geez, I can''t even move my ps4 saves to the ps5 'cause it wants me to update first.
I want to play Dirt Rally without starting from scratch.
I hear the ps5 improves the video and performance of the ps4 games.
I got my kids a PS5 for Christmas a couple of years ago. Since they don't care about hacks, the updates aren't a problem. PS4 games look pretty good on it but I don't really see much difference from the PS4 to be honest. Just the ability to hold steady frame rates but that does help in the fluidity of things. Having a Sony 120hz tv does help in getting the most out of it. The PS5 version upgrades for PS4 games is what makes the biggest difference if they are available for the games you want play. Just gotta hope they are free which not all of them are.

LOL

I may as well update it, since I want to use it. I don't think the ps5 will be hacked as easily as the ps4 was.

I'm waiting for Sony to put in an 'autobrick' feature if you don't update for 30 days...

Like the old Mission Impossible tape recorder... going up in smoke.

That would be interesting and I'm sure if they did implement such a measure, that it would be hacked that much quicker. Fortunately for us users though, I think that such a act would be illegal, at least for now.

I don't know. Remember when they pushed an update on the ps3 that wiped out legally using linux. You could boot the ps3 to the console side, or boot it to the OS. I loved playing with linux on the ps3 and still use it to game.
Then because someone hacked the ps3 through the linux boot (I believe), the next update gave you no choice, effectively bricking the ps3 if you wanted to continue using linux. I put off the update for months, but eventually gave in to keep playing my games.
I think Sony argues they own and rent you the unit, so if they decide to make it a paperweight because the next gen has come out, they can do it with an update.
And I believe there are a few lawsuits right now vs Sony...
I guess we'll see how far they will push it.

True, but then Sony's actions caused the community to step up and now the ps3 can do so much more.

Yeah. I got the first edition of the ps3 phat... it's got like 1.5 on it. I'm having a hard time follolwing the instructions to customize it. I don't want to brick it. I take it out occasionally to play guncon games...

I don't blame you. I was one of the first ones to install the famous bricking ps3 cfw released by waninkoko back in the day. Lucky enough it was only my secondary ps3 that I purchased with a ylod for cheap and revived. Needless to say I let others be early adopters after that before I attempted any cfw installs. Sometimes you learn the hard way but I find it's the best way. Now they are mistakes you will never forget and hopefully never make again.

This ph3 phat is worth ALOT from what I've seen on ebay. I got it the first day it was released cause I prepaid for it. I remember walking into the game store on release day past 20 people standing in line trying to buy one. I gave the guy at the counter my name and preorder #, he reached below the counter and handed it to me, and I walked out past those 20 people. I got same raw looks and took off without even buying a ps3 game... It was pretty funny.
Then I swapped out the HD for a 100Gb.
I still got ALOT of ps3 games on disc.

I'd strongly advise you to update to 2.50 at least. that's when the recovery menu was introduced. after that, you can try customizing it. don't worry. even if you were to delete all of dev_blind, it's recoverable.

unfortunately, I think the only way to get lower firmware is to buy used. 4.03 is like a year or more old. and, considering that ps5s sell out quickly, I think it may be impossible to get a new one with that low of firmware.

And it is almost useless to the average gamer who buys it, unless you keep it up to date, so even used you are likely to get one with the latest FW. And at $607 (mine with tax), it's really hard to buy 2...

Does anyone know how to get the ps4 saves onto the ps5 without updating it?

I plugged in my ps4 external HDD with all the legit ps4 game loads/saves on it, and the ps5 started to d/l all the updates for the games saved on the drive automatically. Or at least queued them for d/l. I stopped it as I don't want 20 Gb download at the moment. It did this although I'm still on 5.0 and it keeps pestering my to update.

Can I d/l and play the Horizon FW game they included without the psn sign up and update? Anyone know?

it may not be possible currently. the ps4 requires signing in to export/import saves unless it's on exploitable firmware. at present, we can't do that with the ps5.

it needs to be activated, which you can tell by your name being italicized. it's the same on both ps4 and ps5.

So my snarky and somewhat facetious comment about sony bricking the console without an update is actually true when said about Microsoft.

This is irony. When Apple and MS first started out, Apple was overly proprietary and left no room for excitement or homegrown experimentation. MS, on the other hand, allowed people to build their own pc's and put a working OS on and play with out big brother looking in... I prefer their previous policy.

When I Robot happens and robots take over humanity, they will be Sony and Microsoft models...

I don't know about regular, retail games, but I think you have to be signed in when in dev mode for the dev packages to work. not really a big deal for me, but that sort of thing isn't very reliable for many. hopefully, sony doesn't implement something similar with the ps6, or there will probably be no homebrew.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
