Can the 3DS's IR Blaster be used for anything other than amiibo or anything "unofficial"?

The IR was alrdy researched into about tv remotes. it could be done. the only set back. is the crappy signal strength. You would have to be inches from the tv to have the remote control work
If I remember the research right it wasn't even inches you would pretty much need to hold the 3ds on the tv for it to work. :rofl2: which kinda defeats the purpose

A tv old enough to not have buttons likely is old enough to lack any sort of IR system in it. Not sure that would work. lol.
I didn't mean like an old fasioned TV with knobs 🤣

It's actually en emerging trend in new TVs (especially Samsung) for them to be remote only with no physical buttons on them.

i actually had a couple of TVs, both modern and CRT that expect you to have a remote to navigate the OSD
some also have such an obtuse button layout that you never remember which is which because they're all in a straight row with separate buttons that do something else than navigate with, so having a remote in these kinds of cases even if it's mere centimeters away from the sensor would be very useful
