From my experiences isos are fastest. Thats why I switched. Some black screen folder methods were also fixed in .iso.

Transferring isos on usb is also faster than files.

Even if they're ran from an external HDD? Anyway, what should be done with PS3 PKG games, upload them to the internal HDD and then install them or copy them to an USB device and then install them? Which takes longer?

Oh, I thought you were asking if hdd was slower, sorry.

What HDD are you talking about, internal or external?

Even if they're run from an external HDD? I got some black screens with downloaded JB converted to ISO running from external HDD. Anyway, what should I do with .pkg games, FTP them to the internal HDD and then install them or copy them to USB and then install them? Which takes more time?

Transferring to internal then installing pkgs is faster but that's also an extra step. I still believe its faster and thats how I do all my pkgs = ftp to system pakcages folder then install them from internal. Bigger pkgs you can really see the difference. If one day we get a comp app to manage ps3 hdd we would save so much time / life :)

Yes, I know it's faster, but uploading them to the PS3 is a lot slower than copying the game to an USB device, so what takes less time? Sorry, I didn't get the last part.

Installing from usb to ps3 is super slow and faster from ps3 to ps3.

If pkg small size usb is faster

If pkg is big internal is faster

Both work fine and same end result

Example: Multiman cover pack 730MB = ftps in like 1 minute then installs in a few minutes

From pkg to usb its also about 1 minute or less but to install is like 5+ minutes - The bigger the file the more you will notice it

I know but what about those cases in which game data (especially big one) is installed and you only know it's installed after running the game and you want to run it from an external HDD? Should the PS3 ISO game be uploaded to the internal HDD, install game data, copy it to the external HDD using IRISMAN's file manager (in my case) and then delete the original game from the internal HDD or should the risk be taken (not caring if it will install game data on not) and copy the game to the external HDD and run it right away?

Game data install (If game has it) is installed from game on 1st launch

Iso and file are same when it comes to this

Some games are slow on install like the 4gb naruto 45 min

I suppose you can install it with game then ftp in and copy it back to pc then you can always ftp it back to avoid the long install time - I never bothered to do this but in theory should be possible as long as game data isnt linked to ps3.

I hope this is what you mean.

I know but it's not known if it's installed or not before running the game.

Sorry, I didn't get what you mean.

Yeah you can check under game column all the way up top. Game data utility or whatever its called.

All game data installs and game updates show there.

I believe I answered all your questions.

But that is to know if it installed game data. How can it be known beforehand if the PS3 ISO (or PS3 folder format) game will install game data or not, and if the former, if it will be large or not?

Launch game will ask to install data or not - if it takes a long time it will be big.

But some games force data install, so it's not asked if it's wanted or not, and even if it was, how could the ammount of time it would take to install it be known so that it would be known the game should've been/should be uploaded to the PS3?

But some games force the data install so they don't ask if one wants to install it or not, and even if all did, how could one know it would take a lot of time to install so that he should've FTPed the game to the internal HDD?
Ftping game to internal wont change anything. You still have to install the data if you want to play the game. Required game data is required.

I know but at least it will install game data faster. It might be too risky moving the game to an external HDD because it might have to install large game data next.

EDIT: I installed the latest Evilnat version, played the same PS3 ISO (european G-Force) game (it remained non-split) from the same external HDD in the latest IRISMAN version and I think I didn't have this supposed slowness issue.

EDIT 2: I bought an used PS3 since the previous stopped reading Blu-ray discs, installed webMAN MOD's latest version and it hasn't been freezing my PS3 so maybe it was the previous PS3's HDD's fault. Anyway, I got used to IRISMAN so I uninstalled webMAN MOD.
