While using dbi to install games through the mtp responder, I get an error on atmosphere that is related to sd card corruption. Tried to reformat the sd card and recreate emunand. Eventually get to the screen on hekate that says the card reader is on 1 bit mode.

Not sure what happened but a 2nd card reader module still says the same thing. I'm hoping a few more sd card readers will eventually work though... I don't see anything physically wrong with the pins. Switch wasn't dropped or anything. Card wasn't even being moved at the time.

What other steps can I take to diagnose the problem? Got a freshly formatted card with 2 replacement modules and no pins missing... Hoping this isn't the end of this V1 unpactched switch.

Could it be the sd card has gone bad and the ports are fine. Try another card if you have one
Sorry forgot to mention i tried with a smaller 64 gb card. And reformatted the 512 gb a few times with different methods (ones that worked before too).

Whoops read your post wrong. You did swap a new SD card reader in.

I think you can use a multimeter tool thing to poke the pins to see if they're actually working? I'm not 100% sure on that. But that would tell you if the pins are working even though you say they don't look damaged.

If new card readers don’t work, now might be a good time to learn microsoldering with hot air. I have bad eyes and shakey hands but still enjoy when parts “cinch up” properly. (too new to the sport to know what that’s actually called)

Anyway, that FCP connector is cheap, common and pretty well out in the open. It can be replaced fairly easily by yourself or a local electronics repair shop.

Best of luck to you and I hope you’re able to save your V1!

Took a proven working card reader from my brother in laws switch and placed it in mine. Same problem...

My card reader in his switch has no problem. So guess microsoldering is the next step...

Great troubleshooting! That absolutely eliminates the reader being the issue.

Microsoldering a good skill to have and fun to learn. Enjoy the journey, my friend.

Already ordered 5 sd card modules too... Hahaha. Oh well. I'm gonna tape down the card reader when I get this all fixed up.

Guy who sold me a replacement sd module also does fcp connector replacements so I'll get him to do it. Hope that solves it all.

Still can't figure out how the damn thing got damaged... Need to look into getting a 2nd switch for less card switching...

The design of the entire SDCard solution is just awful on the switch. We should band together and file for a class action ball kicking for the guy who put it together.

Are these pins that easy to damage? I wasn't even touching the switch when it happened. Was just installing a few games using the mtp responder on dbi.

I don't see any physical damage on the pins so could it be a short?

MTP and UMS are both ways to limit the wear and tear on the SDCard. Really hard to say remotely how it would have happened. Either way you want to start with the most likely and easy to fix and move out from there. When you open it up you can definitely look for shorts and opens with a multi-meter. If it’s all clear the next step is to replace the easiest component (the FCP on the mobo.) If you’re not comfortable with these sorts of things, just take it in to any phone/electronics repair shop and they should be able to get it running for you in short order.

Guy I left the switch with does have experience changing the fcp connector and has a multimeter. Hope that's all it takes to fix it. But there's no way to ensure it won't happen again right?

Taped down the card reader module on my brother in laws switch to prevent further moving around...

The best way is to hack your switch and then transfer files via Network (FTP or Network install) or USB (MTP or UMS mounting). This way you never (rarely) touch your SDCard. I pull mine only for backups, once every 2 weeks or so. less is more.

Planning to get a 1 tb card and splitting it between ofw and cfw. I'm already using mtp to install games. But every time I update or want to start cfw from scratch, I felt the need to remove the card... Won't be doing that again 0_o
