Just wondering if someone can explain what a "Rebootless" firmware update is?

The update doesn't require your Switch to reboot, like it normally does; it just stays turned on.
Think of it like, I dunno, updating your graphics drivers (for example, Nvidia GeForce Experience); your computer doesn't need to shut down and restart itself, it just updates without major interruption, and far quicker too. Same thing here, essentially.

So, when you update to a rebootless firmware update, from that point on when you update your switch it doesn't need to reboot?

No sir. It means that for this particular update, a reboot is not required.

The reason is that it’s just an update for things like the bad word dictionary which is not a functional part of the Operating System.

Hi, I am currently on 13.2.1 /AMS 1.2.6/S

I have one newer game back up not working so I think I need to update. Should I use 14.1.2 or 14.1.2 (reebootless) or does it matter? Also it looks like I would have to update AMS as well to run 14.1.2?

Thanks,

Wouldn't have thought it would matter, the rebootless update only updated the banned words list, no system files. Yes you will also have to update Atmosphere, Hekate and your sigpatches.

Thanks for the help. I found a post here with sig patches but it is dated 2020, where is the best place to find the most current ones as the github page I used last time is down?

If possible you should learn how to create your own, here is an excellent guide on how to do this: https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-create-your-own-sigpatches.616288/

Just having a quick look it seems you can download them from here:
https://rentry.org/EristaEmuNAND
I don't know if they are the latest, but I'm sure the link on that page used to take you to the sigpatches on github, and now it is a direct download link so I would guess they probabaly are.

It would be better to learn to make your own though, it is fairly simple and straightforward

recommending the "hard" way, when some great developers have made it (a lot) easier ? :moogle:

sigpatches generator :

BTW sigpatches will NEVER ever disappear from internet. DMCA claim on github is some kind of intimidation and does not rely on ANY law.
Learning how to make it is great, but not really necessary.

Someone's even creating a homebrew for the switch to make sig patches.
Look on the last few pages of this thread, there's also a windows exe in the works so you don't have to mess with python

I recommended that thread because it mentions both the .exe and the python script. I figured then they could choose which way they wanted to do it.

Last I checked, the 1st thing, the 1st post says is to check out the .exe

edit:

Sigpatches will probably never disappear from the internet, much like roms never do.

The DMCA notice does rely on law. As is common practice with any kind of legal notice Nintendo's lawyers specifically mentioned the law and subsection the notice relies on.

Straight from the notice:

"Trafficking in circumvention software, such as SigPatches, violates the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of the United States (specifically, 17 U.S.C. §1201), and infringes copyrights owned by Nintendo."

https://github.com/github/dmca/blob/master/2022/07/2022-07-28-nintendo-of-america.md

That section states:

"(2) No person shall manufacture, import, offer to the public, provide, or otherwise traffic in any technology, product, service, device, component, or part thereof, that—
(A) is primarily designed or produced for the purpose of circumventing a technological measure that effectively controls access to a work protected under this title;"
