Hello guys,

I was softmodding one of my Wiis and I came up with a problem.

My Wii is a 4.3U white Wii, with GC retrocompatibility.
It was never softmodded before.
I downloaded the letterbomb from the official website, put the correct MAC address, the correct 4.3U version and the option "Bundle the Hackmii installer for me" was checked.
My SD Card is a 16gb SD card formatted in FAT32

I tried to load the exploit using the letter bomb method, but the letter bomb never appeared.
- Wii time and date are correct
- SD Card is in FAT32 (I formatted it again just to make sure)
- I tried with two other SD cards, one 1GB and other 4GB, and still the letter bomb doesn't show up.

When I insert the SD Card on Wii, the SD Card icon keeps gray for 5 seconds and then turns blue.
If I click in SD Card icon while it's still grey, the SD Card page opens up, keeps loading SD Card and appears a message "The device inserted in the SD Card slot cannot be used"
If I click in SD Card icon after it turns blue, the SD Card page opens up like it's working normally.

Well, I read a lot of other questions like mine and never found a solution.
I used the str2hax method to install Homebrew Channel and it worked.
It was said that, if the SD Card inserted has a boot.elf or boot.dol file in its root, the exploit of str2hax will boot this file from SD Card.
When the exploit of str2hax loaded, it was written on the screen that no SD Card was found, even with my SD Card inserted.
I installed the homebrew channel using this method, and when it opened, no apps appeared.
I tried all three SD Cards without success (all of them worked in my other Wiis).
I pressed 1 and tried to click in SD Card to load the files, but "Exception (DSI) occurred" message appeared (it happened with all three SD Cards)
Then, I tried to put the files into a USB flash drive. I pressed 1 and selected USB drive. The same "Exception (DSI) occurred" message appeared.

My Wii is working, I can play games normally, but I can't open homebrew apps.
I even tried to transfer save game data to the SD Card and it worked, so I don't think the SD card slot is faulty.

If anyone could help me, I really appreciate it

Did you follow this tutorial in detail? Its the recommended https://wii.guide/

If iam right you missing a installed cios 58 or 80 for the homebrew channel correctly to work and give access to SD Card. Homebrew needs cios (ios with patched base) to have sd/usb access. We will see in the syscheck...

SD card is not write locked? , the little "lock" on the side of the SD?
It's not write locked

have you tested the SD card in FAT or Fat32?
my SD card is formatted in FAT32

I found an old 2GB usb flash drive formatted in FAT and homebrew channel recognized it

I installed a cIOS pack that I found, but without success in recognizing the SD Card

EDIT: Also, can you try making and posting a sysCheck?

How did you get all these ios'es installed with a non accessible sd card? From the looks of this, this system was already modded before..
Also, no BootMii.
In any case, i would suggest cleaning the sd card slot with a q-tip or something thinner, remove any debris or dirt that might be there. Use a flashlight (or the one on your phone) to see under there. I would try using another sd card adapter if you have been using the same with all your micro sd cards..

I installed using a 2GB FAT usb flash drive.

My SD cards are the conventional size SD card, not micro sd cards and they work perfectly in my other three Wiis.

have you tested the SD card in FAT or Fat32?

I just realized that my 1GB SD card was formatted in FAT32. Now it is in FAT, so homebrew channel recognized it.

Is there any way to make my Wii recognize FAT32 SD cards or USB flash drives?

Only these cIOSs 249/250/251 are part of the Wii guide.. So it's either the Wii was modded before, or you used a different guide (or a YT video) to install those other cIOSs..

I tried some guides hoping to fix my problem, including this one that installs only cIOSs 249/250/251, but any of them helped me.

I need to make my Wii read FAT32 devices, it only recognizes FAT.
What could I do?
It's already updated to 4.3U

Try beta 52. It's the fat library that you need.

Chances are something else was causing the issue that got rectified when u formatted to fat. If u reformat back to fat32 there's a solid chance it will work now.

But yeah, if Fat32 doesn't work for u, double check the drive is MBR and primary as well. Also ensure you're using port0, the nearest the edge of the console. If that fails try a different drive and/or ensure it is receiving enough power (E. G. WiiU usb ports are generally underpowered and need a Y cable to draw power from 2 ports)
