Hi,

I bought a new OLED Swtich at 14.1.2 that I want to keep using as the main "clean" Console. I want all my saves to be moved from my old 2017 Switch currently on 13.0.0.

I intend to start running CFW on the old Switch, and hence I want to avoid upgrading it past 13.0.0 (read that it makes it impossible to go back, but I'm not sure it helps me to stay on 13.0.0 either...)

I discovered that Nintendo does not let me do the move unless I upgrade to the newest 14.1.2.

Is there anyway to move the saves without upgrading my unpatched 2017 Switch? The OLED is of course patched.

I'd say update it anyway since you need to be on latest fw to transfer save files. Fw version doesn't really matter these days unless it's on patched consoles and it's lower than 4.1.0 (so you can do the pegascape softmod).

Never hear anything about 13 being special. You can install and run any version of HOS you like when you Switch is patch, only catch is your card slot firmware is HOS specific so if you want to go back to 13 (really there is no reason to want that) you better block the card slot from getting updated to be safe (I don't know if there was a card slot firmware update since 13 but that info should be available out there)

Sounds like I should just upgrade old Switch to 14.1.2 and be done with it! Thanks for the feedback...
If you set up emunand you can use your sysnand like you never did any hack. Becareful to not connect your (naughty) emunand online and you will be fine. If you bought anything from eshop you may want to transfer the primary status to the new Switch (go to Nintendo website for guide). Non primary unit cannot play eshop game offline.

A eshop game let's two Switch play it at the same time, one online and the other (the primary unit) offline.

if you OLED doesn't have a chip, the only way is using Nintendo servers.

if you have a chip on the OLED, you can transfer the saves using JKSV in no time.

In addition to what TomSwitch said, after you updated your Switch firmware and transfered the savegames, first of all make a backup of your SD card's content and remove everything, then format it to FAT32 (refer to this https://rentry.org/FAT32FormatSD, choose MiniTool).

Next follow this guide https://rentry.org/BackupRestoreNAND to make a so-called NAND backup as the very first step before you start "the real hacking" (refer to this on how to inject payloads https://rentry.org/SwitchPayloadLaunch).

After you did the NAND backup and moved it to your PC to a safe-place (don't need it on your SD card anymore), follow this guide to set up an emuNAND https://rentry.org/EristaEmuNAND (choose whether emuNAND type you want to use, the only advantage there really is, is that file-based is easily accesible in case you switch SD cards).
Keep in mind that an emuNAND is a 1:1 copy of your sysNAND (stock's internal memory), so whatever savegames or installed games to the system where on it will be also present at your emuNAND (at least at the time of creation, afterwards both sys and emuNAND are independent from each other). I'd also recommend to turn off the cloud saving function before you make an emuNAND because it can cause issues. Additionally also enable airplane mode beforehand aswell, just in case.

Additionally, read up on this for ban-prevention https://rentry.org/AvoidSwitchBan (the previous guide for emuNAND covers setting the protection up).

If you want to install local backups to your emuNAND, refer to this https://rentry.org/NSUSBInstall .

If in the future you want to update your emuNAND, refer to this https://rentry.org/UpgradeDowngrade .

One thing about Nand backup is it is likely to be out of sync with what Nintendo have on your Nand so restoring and going online is a ban risk. If desperate then restore and do a factory reset (it will prompt you to go online and there is the option to refuse).

The NAND backup is only meant for the worst-case scenario anyway, when you can be happy to even be able to restore it and use the Switch at all.

What you said was right though, nevertheless with the situation I explained, I think that's your least important problem ^^
And generally speaking that's why I (aswell as you) recommended the emuNAND in the first place, because it can be re-created as often as you want, unlike the sysNAND which has to be restored if it brakes.
