Hello fine people of GBAtemp,

today I want to ask you a question that has occupied my mind for a long while now.

How do you show someone that you truly love him/her/them. Let him/her/them now that they would be dearly missed if he/she/they would be gone. That he/shethey would be dearly dearly missed.

Please share your thoughts.

The way my wife goes on about it, probably putting dirty plates in the dishwasher, instead of on top of the worktop, near the dishwasher ;)

Physical touch (not necessarily sexual).
Facial expressions (like smiling etc.).
Action, as in doing things for them, you fix her/his car if it's broken (and it's within your knowledge to do so) etc. Being considerate and thoughtful about what he/she likes & doesn't like.. Giving her/him gifts, or fixing breakfast doing the laundry when she's away or sick etc.
Listening to what she/he has to say about things she's having trouble with (problems, worries etc.), being open-minded and understanding..
Stuff like that means that you care and love a person without saying "I love you".. On the other hand, saying that phrase without doing any of the above is meaningless.. 🤷🏻‍♂️

By figuring out what they would personally value and appreciate the most. Love isn't a selfish desire, it is an understanding. How to best show understanding is demonstrate how deeply you understand them and care for them.
That is a boring stereotypical answer. Nothing unique about that. That view point offers nothing new to the table.

Okay, so what is your perspective then? I would like to hear your thoughts on how to show true love (for instance towards me in particular).

Step 1, find out if it is actually a he, she or it.
If the rest is not gonna happen naturally, it's probably not worth the effort.

Asking other people isn't going to give you an answer. Showing true love to someone is understanding how they interpret what that is and delivering. No one can answer for them and if you can't figure what that is then it wasn't really a good fit for them.

If they are still in the stage where they don't even recognize what they interpret as real love then they aren't a good fit for you in that moment.

You can deliver the correct answer for them to interpret as true love at a time where they aren't prepared to realize it. You can receive the correct answer at a time when you don't know that you will want to look for an answer to that question and easily dismiss it. It is why "the one who got away" exists from either perspective.

I see. Maybe to show true love means to be engaged in an eternal struggle. It torments my mind to know that I can not sufficently communicate others and prove to them how much I love them.
