The reality is that a portable system shouldn't be able to emulate a "current gen" console at all, let alone to the point of so many games being fully playable. I would've already sold off my Switch if I weren't a collector of Nintendo and Sony systems, though this will probably be the last round where I keep up with the cutting edge stuff. Everything is available on PC now, and games that won't emulate well on Steam Deck I have my desktop for.
A five year old console that was born "behind the curve in tech" is kind of a stretch to be call "current gen" without a qualification. "Nintendo's 5 year old current gen" being emulated is a Software trump rather than a Hardware trump.

Slow and reliable is what Nintendo is about. Cutting edge they have not done for a long time. Maybe NES was cutting edge.
The Switch was just a continuation of Wii U.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Switch, but it was never cutting edge. Perhaps they push the joycon team and the result wasn't pretty.

its odd to me how people always get some weird disconnect from reality when they like a product which doesn't allow them to accept its not as perfect as they wish to believe. this same odd bias is why console wars exist. oh and btw I play links awakening 60fps on my switch without lowering the resolution while on steam deck it again needs 0.75x. overclock is your friend
I never once used the word "perfect." I did say that it can give you better performance than Switch in a number of games, which remains true. In some games the performance is worse. Again, it's a valid option for people who want to consolidate devices and/or want to try out certain Switch games without buying a walled garden device that has its own software tax named after it.

You and I clearly have different ideas of what constitutes "bad" emulation. 5-10 FPS with lots of audio and visual glitches is bad. Running roughly 80% of Switch's exclusives at full speed or even faster? That's insanely good for a brand new system without any optimization done for it specifically.

Personally I see zero appeal in the steam deck

Battery life blows, and blows hard - just get a PC if you are gonna be tethered to a cord

If you are the type who has to take the tram to work 1 hour each way daily maybe it makes sense (if you also can plug it in)
2-3 hours for AAA games, 6-7 hours for indies and most emulation. Not sure why or how you'd expect better than that from any portable as powerful as Steam Deck, the vast majority of the internal space is taken up by the battery after all.

The switch will continue (and any successor) to sell because Nintendo has the strongest IP by far of any publishing company in existence
Nintendo is never going away, but success is obviously not guaranteed for every one of their consoles either. If they don't make enough improvements to the hardware and the online play of Switch 2, it could just as easily share the fate of Wii U.

Considering that the Deck is basically designed to install any games you want into it (it runs Linux, after all), what it *probably* does is get some people off Nintendon't shoulder as they don't have to worry about people hacking their console if getting a Deck is just overall better. After all, there's infinitely more games to play than solely Current Year's games, and setting up a Deck with eg.: Retroarch (not to mention Steam, Kodi etc) basically leaves Nintendo handhelds dead in the water as potential multiplatform gaming hubs (the more considering NSO's emulation services and catalogs are locked down to below subpar quality).

I mean you already proved how misinformed you are by saying links awakening runs at 30FPS on switch while even in handheld mode without overclock it runs at 60FPS most of the time and if you remove the annoying dream effect its always 60FPS. so in this instance you saying "runs at full speed or faster" means nothing especially when I know exactly how the games run on the steam deck and the fact you NEED to lower the resolution below what the switch can handle in order to achieve it

Nintendo is always a generation behind in terms of console hardware, so the "Super Switch" may be a hybrid between a PS3 and PS4 or something like it.
The Switch is already more powerful than PS3, even if not by much. Its biggest advantages are the RAM (4GB compared to 256MB) and much more streamlined architecture

its actually close to base Ps4 and Xbox One in power. the Wii U already surpassed the PS3 and the Switch is more powerful than that. hell there are even examples of switch games surpassing the Ps4 version such as Alien Isolation

how do you see the Steam Deck changing the Console market
I don't see it changing it in any way.

A steam deck is ridiculously expensive, at $900 and some people just can't afford those prices.

Also, it's mostly a portable PC. I don't think it even needs homebrew to run emulators and whatnot.
Nintendo's consoles are mostly bought due to the sweet exclusives.

Love the Switch for only one reason... PIRACY
Yep, if only that was available on more than 10% of console units...

its nintendo, i wouldn't expect a "super switch" any more powerful than a xbox 360. ps3/ps4 would be plans for the year 2040 :rofl2:

Regarding the battery life, that is not my experience really. It totally depends on what you play I guess, but for me it usually lasts 6 hours, and that is great.

Regarding the appeal, it depends on the person I guess. I go from Steam Deck to PC and back as I see fit, and I find it great. To be honest the place I use the Steam Deck the most is on the Sofa, in my bed, or as any one will guess in the toilet.

When I feel like playing on my PC, I can continue where I left on the Steam Deck and vice versa. But to be honest I play way more on the Steam Deck. To be honest the Deck has made me return to PC gaming, my computer was collecting dust, I hadn't bought a game in Steam for years, but now that I can play on the Deck just lying on the Sofa and then Switch back to my PC whenever I want, I am finally using my PC for gaming now and then.

As I said before, the appeal depends on the person, different strokes for different folks. But sure there's an appeal to it for some people, for me personally it is the most appealing thing that happened in PC gaming for a long time, as I said it made me come back to PC gaming and buy a lot of stuff from the Steam store.

Now, regarding the OP topic,

Is the Steam Deck a Game Changer for Nintendos Plans to release another Console?

No, I don't think Nintendo will even react to the Deck, Nintendo does its own thing.
