fixes suck major balls. got banned on multiple sites for calling out these people making fixes, because you need the license to decrypt the game to begin with. a fix is only resigning it as free bypassing license activation. these pos don't release the licenses, so you're at their mercy if you download their stuff. total bull shit.
no, you can't. edats, at least the ones for c00, are generic. that's why evilnat and hen can unlock them. they contain no personal info, and they just require the content id, which you can get in multiple places including the pkg itself. raps are unique keys. actually, I don't believe the rap format is a legit one. it was created to remove user information and the rif keys from a rif file, so they're not technically copyright, since they don't contain any actual keys. they use some sort of algorithm using your act.dat and idps (account and console ids basically).
I don't remember a whole lot as it's been years, and I hate the scene. a lot of these so called "fixers," who essentially break the games or don't know what they're doing are kinda like those wannabe devs and hackers in the ps4 scene. they may not come out and say it, but they won't correct you if you believe it. efame whores mostly with these people, and since most sceners know almost nothing, they're naive to believe in this stuff, simply because they don't know how it's done.
Scene should have set standard from get go and nuke all of those. But hey still grateful we have lower version of a shit load of games

Yes you need them. I just tested with evilknat 4.89.2.
edat will make trial full after restart or loading game then exiting.
Updating game will most likely break it - Unless you find new crack for new version etc.
Evilkant / Cobra sure does make all this way easier / faster.

Does that mean the games and DLC I've been downloading that come with .edat files are C00?
Maybe one day someone will crack the ps3 hard drive file system as installing pkgs is slow on ps3
I thought that had to do with the SATA controller and so it was a hardware limitation.
Anyway, so it looks like some games after being updated become broken?

I have installed multiple games (around 105 or so), and backports for many of them on the ps4, but I don't play the ps4 at all. been playing dragon quest xi (have over 100 hours) on the switch. I just gained to level 99 yesterday, and I still have some quests and other stuff to do before I take on the true final boss. I plan to play tales of berseria next. I don't think that game required a backport on 5.05, but I bought it on sale on psn for $8 on my ps5. there's another sale going on right now, and I usually skim the selections. I got tekken 7 with all dlc for around $100 off many months ago.
I think ratchet and clank q-force requires both an edat and a rap. it's the only game I can remember like that. it is a c00 game, but it does require more after that with the rap. I asked a friend who dumps games for these wannabe devs if both were necessary, and he said yes. I was dumping klicenses for him while his system was in the shop.
dev licenses. I think every game uses them, so to resign a game as free, you have to use on of the free ones. there's one main free one, but there's three altogether iirc. fixes couldn't exist without them. that's why ps2 classics couldn't be fixed. there's no free klicense for ps2 games.
you're only alternative is to find the rap or to find a fix for the update you're on or later. there's no ps3 content that requires a fix. we know how licenses work, because sony fucked up so badly, so there's no need.
Regarding the games which come with a fix or one may be downloaded separately from the same site, should one install the fix before or after installing updates/DLC?
I think it's more difficult to find physical versions (folder file format) than digital ones (.pkg) and I prefer the former after converting it to .iso.

So, usually C00 games only require .edat and Cobra only requires .rap but that game requires both .edat and .rap?
