I downloaded some files that are supposed to be a mod of NSMB 2for the emulator citra. My problem is that I don't have a good enough computer to play with citra. In the other hand I have a modded 3DS console in which I can install cia files of games. Is there a way I can do a cia file of the mod I downloaded just like you can with flips for SNES rom hacks?

Are these files intended to be patched onto a ROM, or are they baked into the file so that it just runs as a separate game like a Pokemon ROM hack?

Thanks for answering. I don't now how because I've neve played a 3DS rom hack before but they are supposed to work with the citra emulator. The hack I'm trying to play in my 3DS is this one: youtube.com/watch?v=YHC3wosrkvQ&ab_channel=AaronMallie

Okay, no problem. I've downloaded the file myself and see that it uses romfs. Try using the method described in this guide:

For step one, if you aren't using an actual cartridge of the game, just install whatever CIA of the game you're using instead and follow the remaining steps.

Thanks for your answer. Sorry to ask but if I already have installed virtually the game and don't own an original phisical copy of the game, which option should I use? Is it possible to do it w/o me having the original game? Thanks in advabce for your answer. :)

I really don't have a clue on how to do that. Please would you mind explain me how to do it?
Do what? How and where to put mod files?
Luma allows real time patching. Enable game patching in luma,
@godreborn already explained it. Boot into Luma3DS menu holding the "select" button on boot, and enable "game patching" if it's not enabled, then press "start".
put romfs in luma/titles/title id, which you can get in fbi.
You need to look up NSMB2's title id in fbi/titles, highlight the game and write down the title id.
