Wii Shop & DSi Shop maintenance is over, shops are back online

While it really did seem like the end of an era, it apparently was not, and was just like last year's eShop incident! Today between 2:00PM and 3:00PM CEST, the Wii Shop Channel & DSi Shop came back online after almost 4 months of maintenance, allowing once again to download handselected titles and redownload titles you've previously purchased. You can also update your Wii to v4.3 if you've held onto an older version long enough. You might encounter some hickups reopening the DSi Shop, where it's possible you'll have to reaccept the store's EULA or the store thinks the console's country settings was changed. Besides that, it should work just fine.

Be sure to redownload some titles you weren't able to redownload during the maintenance before Nintendo really pulls the plug on their servers. Some free titles remain to be downloadable regardless if you've downloaded them before if you desire filling up your consoles with free software.

Wii:
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Save Data Update Channel
Wii (U) Transfer Tool

DSi:
3DS Transfer Tool (exclusive to Europe and Japan)
Nintendo DSi Browser (exclusive to Japan)

Neat :D
My Wii is still on 4.1, since I homebrewed it a looong time ago, I completely forgot how everything besides executing and updating homebrew applications works ^^'

My guess is that they were doing a massive server migration to get all this content on the same server that hosts Switch downloads today.
Technically, they could have done it without shutting down the old server, just put all games on the new one, and change the DNS target (which they probably did, or else they would need a new Wii update to change the URL).
So, no idea what they did.

It's good to see the eshop back, for users who wanted to get the games they bought but couldn't anymore.
possibility to update the console without homebrew is also nice. But now homebrew updated their URLs to use alternate repositories for IOS.
All Nintendo did is force the hand of homebrew developers to use non official repositories :lol:

For some reason, on several DSi setups I tried, the Shop was begging me to reaccept the EULA, thinking I changed regions? On one it thought I went from Germany to the Netherlands, and on another one thought I went from Brazil to the UK. Added it to the post just to be sure lol.

Edit: If enough people send in their reports on this I can generate a decent list of swapped regions.
Germany -> Netherlands
Brazil -> United Kingdom
United Kingdom -> Germany

I never bought a single Wii game and even sold my copy of Wii Sports at the time to put toward a HDD for the Wii, but in retrospect there are some titles I wish I had supported such as The Last Story.

    I haven't been gaming for such a long time. Been mostly busy with sleep, hardware tinkering and checking GBAtemp frequently.

    Hope you've had a good morning.

    It's going alright thanks :) I know what you mean with gaming time. It's precious where I can get it these days.

    I think that's why I focus on just enjoying single player experiences that aren't too competitive

    How are you doing?

    There's also this thing where I'm hyperfocused at night and cannot get to sleep.

    That must be rough. Productive I'm sure but hard to balance with daily life

    @Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
    Man, that's beyond my brain :rofl: I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    @Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

    Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
    Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    @Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
