Bandai Namco released a trailer yesterday for One Piece Odyssey, a new RPG based on the long running manga and anime by Eiichiro Oda, who also has written the story for the game. The two and a half minute trailer gives some glimpses at cutscenes involving Luffy and his crew, a new character and some bits of gameplay. They additionally reveal the developer as ILCA,Inc and will feature music from composer Motoi Sakuraba of the Tales of series. It is currently set for a 2022 release date, with pre-orders available now.

One Piece Odyssey will release on PS4 and PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

isn't it supposed to be "Tales of Arise" like mentionned above?
no tales of is a series. tales of arise is just the latest one. there's been a lot of games in the series. think it started on the snes. I'm going to play tales of berseria or dragon quest xi next. Sakuraba has done the music for most of them, but he's had some help on a few of the tales of games. apparently, he did all the tracks for tales of arise.

i tried catching up reading the manga, but going all in one go bored me to tears. probably better as a weekly or book read. checked out around the time that one character died. that was years ago though, so might try to limit it to 10 books at a time.

hopefully this game can satisfy fans and non-fans alike.

I actually would like an one piece fighting game with a new style trying to be close to the manga style. Cyber Connect 2 is an example of studio that tries to mimic the 2D author style with a very stylized 3D.

I played the "unlimited" series on Wii, and I liked them. I didn't play Unlimited World Red yet but heard it was good.
I also didn't play World seeker (yet), but it's on my wishlist... one day when I have time.
This one looks nice too.

And Motoi Sakuraba is the composer? nice :D
tales of/star ocean/valkyrie profile (arranged album is so good)

I read the manga.
I watched the anime (until... no more anime due to Toei Animation being hacked this month).

for people who don't know One piece : The manga exists since 1997
one chapter a week, we are now at chapter 1000+

The graphic style could be strange or repulsive at first, but it allows the authors to do a lot of unique characters. and there are a tons of them !
10 years ago I also thought "300 episodes to watch, that's too much" but then I watched them quickly and we are now at 1000 episode too, but don't be afraid, just try the first episodes/season :P (in VO, not dub if you can)
Or read the manga. both are great.
There are fillers sometime, but always interesting and between story arcs, never annoying.

Oh, and the games are always part of the story even if they take place on a new island not from the manga/anime, so if you start with this game, at best you will be spoiled by places, characters, events, which is reaching its end, at worse you won't understand who are doing what, and why.

music by Motoi Sakuraba is a must have. I just preordered it for the ps5 from bandai-namco's website. I'm still waiting for elden ring collector's edition to come back in stock. I plan to get that for the series x.
It's interesting and unexpected that they got Sakuraba for this. He's not quite as prolific at churning out the OSTs as he was in the 90s, but I'm still a big fan of his progressive style.

I've watched a decent amount of One Piece over the years as well, just haven't fully kept up with it or seen all 1013 episodes :/

On the other hand, it is a licensed Bandai Namco game and the previous Dragon Ball Z "RPG" wasn't really all that good despite being the best looking attempt at one so far. I found it less enjoyable than both Attack of the Saiyans and Fusions. For the right price, let's say $20, I'll check out this One Piece RPG someday.

something kinda messed up about this is that bandai namco already took the money out of my account yet there's no solid release date. could've sworn that they didn't take money out until an item is shipped.

He also cameos in Tales of Phantasia itself.
I found Sakuraba in the Tales of Destiny Director's Cut fan translation just recently as well.

This One Piece Odyssey Dev Diary was posted today and includes some words from the maestro himself. He would be grateful if you could play the game with a high quality speaker if possible.
