I have been playing around with Minecraft on the WiiU lately and does anyone know why all the signs you create say "CENSORED"? I understand blocking some language due to the market at kids, but this is EVERYTHING lol. If you put 'Hello' it only shows 4 lines of "CENSORED" lol. I did find a reference to a bug that was fixed in a update about signs and something to do with privacy settings. But I couldn't find any more details.

I was curious and did a few searches. It looks like this was a known bug that was supposedly fixed with an update in 2017. Do you have the latest (game) update installed?

Just a question but why are you still playing Minecraft on the WiiU I would think that there are a lot of better ways to play the game now.

Yes I do. And actually there isn't a way not to, as soon as you run the game and the Wii U is online, it will download all the updates. Strange as I am still seeing it. While the references I found didn't go into specifics, it seemed like it was this bug and fixed.

1. I own it on the Wii U (got a cheap copy of it)
2. Can play it on the Gamepad from anywhere in my home.
3. It is still fun even if it doesn't have the latest updates/enhancements and up until now, I haven't ran into any problems.
4. The newer editions require a Microsoft account now from what I hear. Not something I really want to do just to play Minecraft.

There are actually a lot of reasons, I kept playing this version because it's one of the easiest to modify, with tools like TCP Gecko you get full access to the game's RAM which allows you to do a ton of awesome things even easier than in Java. It also still has a very large player-base still to this day, ranging from modding communities, to Survival and PvP. While PvP is fun on the version it can also get a little toxic :P

The only real downside to it (aside from the obvious EoL after the Update Aquatic - but even that has its upsides: Notch hasn't been cancelled in this version!) is the conformity to the other Legacy Console versions. Unlike Terraria, you can't use the GamePad as its own separate splitscreen.

I agree, although it is possible to circumvent this with a bit of DRC modification ;)

This is because game chat is off :) Settings -> Audio -> Game Chat

Minecraft Wii U censors all forms of communication including signs, books, and renamed items unless voice chat is enabled.
Interesting. I came to report I got it working, but not by enabling Game Chat. I am not sure what the setting is at offhand (off I suspect) but what I ended up doing is turning on the "Online" setting in the game save before loading. Old signs still said "CENSORED" but new ones worked. Also I found that turning the "Online" setting back off still let me create signs fine without a problem.

I was wondering about that but hadn't found the TCP Gecko info about it. I will have to see if I can find that now. I had thought there must be modding communities for the Wii U edition, but so far I keep finding Java mods.

And PvP gets toxic no matter the platform (or game for that matter lol).

Ohhhh I wondered about that as well. I know about the DRC mods for say BOTW, and thought there must be something like that for Minecraft as well. :)

The modding community on Minecraft Wii U is amazing, if you need any help getting started with it then tag me here - or feel free to PM me and I will gladly help :)

Just beware though, a ton of people will try to sell you mods. Most of which are already free, so dont accept their offer immediately without looking around first ;)

To start you off though I actually have a few things compiled for modders on that platform, for one me and a friend have been compiling a ton of mods into one place recently, giving it the name "Minecraft Wii U Plaza" lol. here's the link for that.

https://github.com/MinecraftWiiUCodes/MinecraftWiiUPlaza

There's also my website which has some tools, codes, and guides based on texture and graphic modding

https://korozin.github.io

And there's also my YT channel that I've done a few releases on, I'll just give my most popular one atm ;)

Like any mods these days. And thanks for the offer of help and the link to your repository. Very cool, although not sure how these work yet. I think I must be missing something.

Sorry for the late response, I fucked up my PC xD

But the process for most of these is fairly simple, and the same across the board. If you need any help I'd be more than happy to oblige.

From what you mentioned, it sounds like there was a bug related to signs and privacy settings that was fixed in a previous update. However, it's strange that you're still experiencing this problem. Have you tried updating your game to the latest version? In addition, you may need modbay.org to find something new for you. I also think it will help you solve the problems you are facing. I noticed that you mentioned playing on the WiiU. Is it possible that the censorship is related to the console itself rather than the game? Just a thought.

I can understand your frustration with the signs constantly censoring your messages. It's definitely an odd issue to have, and I'm not entirely sure what could be causing it. From what you mentioned, it sounds like there was a bug related to signs and privacy settings that was fixed in a previous update. However, it's strange that you're still experiencing this problem.

No reason to necro the thread. Plus it's not a weird issue, and the behavior is intentional.

Being either offline or having game-chat off censors the content of both books and signs replacing each line with the Censored text.

It's meant to protect people from what people might be saying online if they choose to leave the chat off.
