Hi everyone!
I have 2 noob questions, but since this is the "noob paradise" I assume it is a safe space.
- Does the DSLite need to be hacked to be able to use a SupercardDSOne?
- Does it happen that the DSLite asks to go through the initial setup if it hasn't been booted in a very long time?
The reason why I ask is because I tried to use my DSLite for the 1st time in 10 years. I realized that the last time I used it was with a SupercardDSOne. It boots perfectly with the Supercard inserted. I tried to remove the Supercard to boot it normally, but I ended up on the DS initial setup screen. This made me wonder: Did I hack my DS a long time ago? (So long that I don’t even remember)

I’m sorry if this sounds ridiculous, but I really don’t remember what I did 10(?) years ago!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

PS: my DS Lite is in Japanese, sorry! (The text roughly says: "First, let's set up your console. Touch the screen or press a button")
Aside from installing Flashme, DS Phats and DS Lites cannot be hacked. They can run any flashcard without extra requirements.
As for your DS Lite showing the initial setup each time you turn it on, it sounds like the battery has worn out. Try buying a new one from eBay or some other site.

Thank you!
So I guess my DSLite is NOT hacked & I can safely go through the initial setup then?
I was afraid I might brick it!

I'll see if the initial setup screen comes up every time once setup properly. It may just be a one-time thing since I haven't used my DS in 10 years...

Haha, i finally found the thread were i belong! xD
So, i have multiple noob questions.
1: which exploit is best/safest? I have flipnote and a working camera
2: is unlauch really necessary? What are the benefits of unlaunch?
3: how often does twilight menu get updated, and is updating it easy?
4: does unlaunch get updates?
5: i have both .nds and .sav files from my sd copy, all these files are from the games i played, which do i need to copy? Both? Do i need to zip them into 1 file?
6: what happens if i accidentally power on the ds without sd?
7: is a 3gb sd good enough? Also is it a problem if the sd is from 2012?
8: can i change a settinf so that twilight launches when i power on my ds? (With sd card in
9: i don't wanna leave my ds card slot empty because what if anythinf gets into it (eg. Dust) can i safely put the ndstt card without sd in it?
10: on a scale of 0-10 how noob am i😂

  1. See the dsi.cfw.guide FAQ, Memory Pit and FlipNote ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) are equally safe, Unlaunch has a very tiny brick risk, more or less the same as doing a System Update, but is the best exploit as long as it works
  2. It's not required, but is generally recommended; the main benefits are listed in the FAQ linked above, main ones are that it allows homebrew full access to the hardware and to load immediately on boot
  3. TWiLight Menu++ updates quite frequently, every few weeks or so; updating is very easy, just copy everything (or just _nds) from the new 7Z, we may make an on console single click updater like on 3DS some day but Wi-Fi has been tricky
  4. It used to update every few months, but has not been updated since 27 Aug 2019
  5. For TWiLight Menu++ you need the ROM wherever you want on the SD card (besides _nds), then the save file goes in a "saves" folder next to the ROM; Ex. sd:/roms/DS/Mario Kart DS.nds and sd:/roms/DS/saves/Mario Kart DS.sav
  6. Assuming you have NO BUTTON set to TWiLight Menu++ in Unlaunch, it'll load whatever you set as LOAD ERROR, people usually either do Unlaunch's filemenu or the DSi Menu (Launcher); if you set NO BUTTON to the SysNAND DSi Menu then it will load as normal
  7. Yes, though perhaps a bit small, I usually recommend 8~32 GB; Not inherently, but SD cards are not known for being the most reliable things ever so you may want to look into a new one, if it's class 2 or worse that may also cause issues, though DSi is not exactly fast at SD speeds itself
  8. Install Unlaunch (no other exploit works at boot) and go to OPTIONS and set NO BUTTON to TWiLight Menu++ (sdmc:/BOOT.NDS)
  9. That's fine, though a DSTT may cause issues loading the official DSi Menu with Unlaunch installed as the DSTT will load automatically
  10. Hmm, maybe a 6 or so, you seem to know enough to know what questions to ask :P

ahh thank you so much! I´m not sure what to do with my sd now, a 32 gb is delivered alongside the adapter, but i wanted to put that one in my phone. i might try and buy whatever size card is fast enough, if i can´t (parents dont allow me to spend my money on anything i want for some reason) i´ll just format the 3gb one and throw tiktok on that sd lol.
also what brand sd card is good? idk what class 2 means anyway haha

also, it´s not too bad if i wait 2 weeks downloading a new update right?
i sometimes do not have acces to a laptop, therefore i might to have to wait haha!

Sandisk and Samsung are generally considered the best brands. Anything you buy today should be more than fast enough, there should be a C2/4/6/8/10 somewhere on the SD, that's the class of it, the higher the better but anything above 2 is probably more than good enough for DSi. Even 2 might be fine but class 2 cards tend to kinda suck. If it doesn't have one then it's not even good enough to pass class 2.

Yeah, it's not really critical to stay on top of TWiLight updates unless you notice something you care about in the update notes, I'd recommend updating every so often but no big deal if you miss a few updates.

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if there was a way to run ROMs immediately upon booting up the console (instead of going through the Twilight Menu screen). I know hiya CFW allows you to create forwarders, but I wanted to find a way to even skip that step as well. Basically I want to soft reset games without having to use the shoulder buttons (the shoulder buttons on my DSi are broken)

I also saw that the hiya cfw settings have something called Autoboot Title which seems like it would apply, but it says it will auto-boot any titles loaded into the autoboot.bin file, which I'm not sure how to do.

I've done a lot of online searches about this but was unable to find the answer, even if the answer is that it's simply not possible. Really appreciate any help here, thank you!

To have TWLMenu++ autoboot a game, set "AUTORUNGAME" to "1" in "sd:/_nds/TWiLightMenu/settings.ini".
After changing said setting, you can hold B to skip auto-running the game, and select a different game.

I got a M3-card for my NDS in 2009, worked fine for years, but this year the console stopped reading the M3-card, all I get is the standard menu-screen. Is there a sort of lifespan for these cards?

I really want to launch dsi ware from my dsi menu, not twilight menu++. I know there is a way, so can someone tell me how and please.
If you have an sdnand set up then you can install dsiware titles to it, although there's a limit to how much you can install iirc. And it requires having Hiyacfw.
Installing dsiware titles directly to your sysnand is risky and not recommended.
I think this guide is still up to date regarding that..🤔

I thought I had this figured out, but apparently not.

As per https://dsi.cfw.guide/faq.html#which-is-the-best-exploit, if I launch TWiLight Menu from Flipnote, is the lack of Slot-1 access the only limitation? Does that mean I can dump my DS cartridges some other way and then play them with TWL clock speed without having to install unlaunch? (I assume this functionality is still missing if Memory Pit is used?)

Any of the DSiWare titles (even system titles, except System Settings(?)) lock out access to Slot-1, so Unlaunch is still required.
