Hey, this is my first time homebrewing a Wii, (aside from the Wii U, but I bricked the vWii on there...)
And every time I select a game on USB Loader GX, it cuts to a black screen and my Wiimote turns off and I can't turn it back on, requiring me to turn the Wii off via the power button
This has happened for most of the games I've tried. (RRR2, NSMBW, MKW, etc.)
I'm using a USB Flash Drive to store the games as well, (I'm mentioning this because I've seen other people mention they recommend using an external hard drive instead of a flash drive, but I've also been told to use a flash drive because it loads the games faster, I need to see which side is right), with a storage size of 128 GB and 76 GB taken up due to the games on there.
Is there anything I need to do to get rid of the black screen?

your syscheck report is correct.

for CIOS, you have version 8 Final, you can try version 10 beta 52 of d2x cios with this guide ==>https://wii.guide/cios.html

little info:

know that you can always come back to version 8 final, if version 10 beta 52 does not please you or does not work.

EDIT:

with your usb key ==> try to format it in WBFS and see the result?

You can try other loaders (wiiflow lite or Configurable loader v70), I have the three loaders on my SD card (it's up to you)

afaik, version 8 or 10 is irrelevant with the original wii. ;) I think the problem is that flash drive.

every time I select a game on USB Loader GX, it cuts to a black screen
Use this modded version of usbloadergx by @blackb0x and try again.
Does the usb flash drive pass the usb initiation screen (without showing the countdown)?
Do you have only 1 partition on the usb drive?
Is it plugged in port 0?
I'm using a USB Flash Drive to store the games as well
Do your games show up in WiiBackupmanager?
Did you transfer these games first with WiiBackupmanager?
I've seen other people mention they recommend using an external hard drive instead of a flash drive, but I've also been told to use a flash drive because it loads the games faster
External HDDs are the go-to choice, no comparison. Though some might not be compatible.. Just get a y-cable with it you're going to get one.

My apologies if I get this wrong, I'm not familiar with most of these questions or "lingo" so I may say this wrong.
First off, I'm pretty sure the flash drive passes the initiation screen. (If you mean it's able to be read by USB Loader GX and doesn't say "USB device cannot be initialized")
Do you have only 1 partition on the usb drive?

Is it plugged in port 0?
Not sure what a partition is for a USB drive, and my flash drive is plugged into the bottom USB port, (the one closest to the edge)

My games do show up in WiiBackupManager, and I used WiiBackupManager to get the wbfs files onto my flash drive.

Got it! Also, I've seen people in this thread mention that I need a "y-cable" for the hard drive, what is that?

Ok, then it does recognize the drive.

Ok. Then don't worry about it.

Good.

It looks like this :>

Though the other end could be different, say if your external hdd only has usb 3.0 or mini etc.

Have you tried with the modded version of usbloadergx that i linked to above?
Also what video cables & tv are you using?
Are the games same region as the console?

Just tried it now, but I still have the same problem sadly.

I'm using the video cables provided in the Wii box, along with an old "Sharp" HDMI tv (I don't have Wii2HDMI, there are video cable ports on the back of the tv as well so I prefer to use those instead.)
Are the games same region as the console?
Yes, they are. (NTSC)

Ok, then it's just the usb flash drive. You can try formatting it as wbfs in WiiBackupmanager, it might make it work, but it doesn't mean it's guaranteed it'll work in your case.

if the external hard drive's size is 1TB, what should the sector size be?
Fat32 32kb cluster size. I told you to format the usb flash drive as wbfs to up the compatibility, not the external hdd.
I just used the default sector size for the external hard drive when converting it to WBFS and everything seemed to work great! Thanks to everyone in this thread for helping!!
No, just get it back to FAT32 32 kb cluster size (for the hdd). You couldn't play GC games without it, or creating a separate fat32 partition for it..

I'm only getting these options when I format them via the wii backup manager:

(edit: ohhhhh okay I get what you're saying now.)
