Recommendations for next retro console

I just started getting my first retro console a little while back and would like some recommendations for my next one (currently have snes)

It also depends on what type of games you prefer plus what your budget is versus your game buying/trading/collecting outlook.
PC Engine/Turbo Grafx, Sega Saturn have become prohibitively expensive to collect for and Neo-Geo has always been a rich mans game (even the Neo-Geo CD is starting to get crazy now). The consoles that were the most popular are generally the ones that are still on the more affordable side; NES, Mastersystem (depending on where in the world you are), Genesis/Megadrive, SNES, Playstation, N64

I’m more so into being a Nintendo collector but also would love to have some Sega consoles too

Hey, if you like Nintendo, can you say what you already have or just nes? I recommend you a gameboy if you want a pocket console as well. And if not, I recommend a gamecube or nintendo 64, do not buy snes for now, because if you already have nes, these two consoles do not differ so much from each other, so I recommend first buying a gamecube and then snes or nintendo 64. Sory that such a long entry, but I'm from Poland and I'm writing partially in a google translator.

It's all personal opinion, but I'd never recommend anyone gets into N64 unless they love racing games - there are far too few titles that are really worth playing on that console that haven't been ported to better/more accessible systems. I'd definitely recommend SNES/SFC over N64 and NES.
Can't argue with Gamecube as a recommendation, except for the fact that prices for titles on that system are still rising. Unless you're just picking up filler titles you'll be paying upwards of retail prices of current gen titles!

Couldn't agree more. I love the GameCube but certain titles are stupidly overpriced at the minute. I didn't want to mod my CIB one and managed to pick up a faulty console that wasn't reading discs dirt cheap and a GC Loader for less than I would've paid for certain games.

I feel there is bias in my opinion but I always liked/appreciated the N64 more than the GC. It had more standout games than the latter at least in my head. I never actually cared enough about GC games to want to get a unit myself, but my wife ended up buying a used N64 some years ago because she wanted to play Goldeneye and a handful of other games as well which we both still enjoy now and again.

That said since also having Mario 64 DS as a kid I can say its the more enjoyable version of Mario 64, and I wish it got a modern console port. Its just far more expansive than the original.

Don't know what part of the world you are in but here in Britain the N64 version sells at round about £30 to £40 boxed and the DS version is only about £5 to £10 boxed.

I'd say Gamecube next if you're looking to stick to Nintendo consoles for now. My second favorite Nintendo library behind SNES. Then again GBA is about on par with SNES too.
