Hello, I am using the R4 SDHC Dual-Core card (2020 sticker) to play DS games (.nds) on my DSi XL.
I got Game & Watch Collection (.nds) to work no problem, but when I tried to run Four Swords Anniversary Edition (.nds) it told me the file name was too long. After shortening the name of the .nds file and trying to load it I got the error "load rom errcode=-5 please reset system."

What do you think the issue is? I got my R4 in March 2022 and the latest kernel recommended for it on the site.

"Four Swords Anniversary Edition (.nds)" is a DSiWare game and can only be loaded on a DSi/3DS/2DS/n3DS/n2DS using CFW or TwilightMenu++, there are no flaschards (yet) able to load DSiWare directly, unless you use Twilightmenu++ for Flashcards (B4DS)

So then

Thanks! Followed this video and got it working!
"Installing TWILIGHT MENU ++ Unlaunch on Nintendo DSi" (by sthetix on YouTube)

EDIT: Only one question now, I set the default to Twilight, how do I view the regular DSi Menu/OS when I'm not using Twilight?
Boot holding A + B to get to the Unlaunch menu, then load Launcher to get to the official DSi Menu. You can set that to a hotkey or NO BUTTON in options if you want. You can also load the DSi Menu from TWiLight by pressing SELECT and then (assuming it loads the DS Classic Menu, the default setting) press X. If you've changed it to use the SELECT Menu instead then choose "DSi Menu" or so from there.

Also, fyi that video is extremely outdated and looks like it uses an AIO download so I'd strongly suggest updating TWiLight Menu++ if you're not on v24.5.0. If you mod another or to anyone finding this thread in the future, https://dsi.cfw.guide is the recommend guide.

1) I backed up my SD Card before attempting to update. The instructions provided at your link say to "copy and merge, don't replace (on macOS)" so I merged for the "_nds" folder, but when I tried to do that for the "title" folder the computer did not give me an option to merge. I ended up with two instances of TWiLight Menu on the system, so I think something is not right, and I went back to the backup I made. Will have to figure this out before a second attempt at updating.

2) Not sure where to find the settings. I see:
- _gba
- FWA4C0E1D11008
- hiya
- private
- roms
- title
- hbmenu built with devkitARM
- Nintendo DS firmware tool version 2.0.0
- TWiLight Menu++ RocketRobz
- Unlaunch DSi Installer Nocash

Having two TWiLights is normal, they're not the same. One is TWiLight Menu++ itself and the other is "last ran ROM", which loads the last ROM you played.

To get to settings open TWiLight Menu++, press SELECT, then it'll be the little DS icon in the bottom middle. (note: this is assuming default settings, you can change that menu to the "SELECT Menu" in which case it'll be the "TWLMenu++ Settings" option)

Okay, I went from v19.1.1 to v24.8.0

I didn't understand the "More steps for the flashcard side" but I'm just using an SD Card, so I assume I will be fine ignoring that

Yeah, that's fine to ignore. It's only when you're using TWiLight on both the internal SD card and a Slot-1 flashcard together.

I looked through the other recommended guide you mentioned (the fresh install, not the update one) and it doesn't cover installing hiyaCFW. Do you have a guide for that?

https://wiki.ds-homebrew.com/hiyacfw/installing

It was moved from the main guide to the wiki a while ago since there just isn't much point to it for most people anymore. If you're just using it to autoboot TWiLight then all it does is slow down boot times, if you want the DSi Menu from SD it's good for that though.
